I think Platoon was his best film. It's also the greatest Vietnam War movie ever made IMO.
Didn't care for JFK though. Found it overlong, convoluted and frankly quite dull.

Wall Street has a good script, but I am just not interested in Wall Street mumbo jumbo. I also find Sheen's relationship with Daryl Hannah extremely boring. Daryl Hannah's performance is distractingly bad imo. Money Never Sleeps has a worse script, but it tells it's story in a more entertaining and interesting way imo. Yeah, I love the script, especially how the "lifestyle" of the rich seduces Bud Fox. There's just a lot of individual scenes in the movie that I love, which makes me love the movie. The casting of Daryl Hannah is an interesting one. Her performance is terrible (I think she accepted the part before reading the script. She obviously can't play a snobby Wall Street elite worth a damn). But what's crazy is that I'm glad Stone cast her, and here's why. So often (especially in the 80s) I'd see movies where the girl character is supposed to be so good looking, with the male characters all crazy about them, but the director had cast someone who wasn't good looking (but could act) This actually distracts me more than bad acting. At least Daryl Hannah is good looking. So when Bud Fox is seduced by the lifestyle of the rich, which includes a beauty like Hannah as part of the prize, I can see how Bud would start breaking the law, it's more believable. But if a good actress, who wasn't that good looking had been cast, then the seduction is harder for me to believe. Interesting. I don't even think Daryl Hannah is all that attractive. Someone like Lea Thompson is much more attractive imo. Michelle Pfieffer? Why not cast her? She is very sexy and can act.

I don't even think movies based on true stories need to be overly realistic. These are not documentaries. The OTT stuff like the eyeball is why I am such a big fan of Oliver Stone. This is part of his style. His movies slowly started to get more over the top shortly after JFK. Even Platoon has unrealistic stuff in it, such as Elias's OTT death scene.I've wondered about that because he gets shot way too many times to keep on running like that. Right? I do like it when he gets all artsy with the visuals such as in NBKillers and Doors. I found his commentary with Doors very helpful. I love that stuff, such as when it shows Mickey Knox as a comic book character.

JFK is anything but dull imo. It is one of the most intriguing movies ever made. There isn't even one scene that isn't interesting. How do you feel about Zodiac?

I agree Lea Thompson is attractive, but Pfeiffer doesn't do much for me (I know I'm in the minority on that one...lol). But we can agree that ideally one would like to get someone BOTH attractive and a good actress.

9/101. Wall Street 2. Platoon 3. Talk Radio 8/104. Snowden 7/105. Heaven & Earth 6. Nixon 7. The Doors 8. Any Given Sunday 9. JFK 6.5/1010. U Turn 6/1011. Born on the Fourth of July 12. The Hand 3/1013. Natural Born Killers Alexander gets a bad rap and it is not a good movie, but it is worth watching for how crazy it is.

Scarface is Oliver Stoner's masterpiece! JFK was pretty good(but most likely bullshit) too he should do another movie on 9/11 conspiracy theories. Born On The 4th of July will truly make you hate the republican party. A must see for alt righters. I think you are making a mistake in assuming that JFK has a message. It is about the known facts and makes no assumptions about the unknown. I am not a big Oliver Stone fan but, being already fascinated with the subject, I was able to watch JFK over and over and over.

I somewhat agree, but I think JFK takes liberties with the facts in order to make the conspiracy theory feel more valid. Zodiac takes the same liberties, but in this case to point you to the killer. The movie is making a case that a certain character is the killer to the point where it is nearly undeniable based on what is shown and presented in the movie.

What was done to Clay Shaw was one of the most horrific travesties of justice associated with the JFK assassination and Jim Garrison among the lowest of lowlife in his profession. I have not seen Zodiac but thanks for the heads up. I will check it out.
No, I do not think that Stone was taking sides in the matter. It seems very much to me like a "what if" approach.

My top 5 Oliver Stone films:
JFK Alexander The Doors U-Turn Salvador
I'm not a fan of Wall Street or Platoon. I acknowledge the merits of both films but they just don't do anything for me subjectively. FMJ is a much better Vietnam film let alone Apocalypse Now. The whole Wall Street greed thing is just a boring subject matter that's been done to death (even if this was one of the earlier depictions of it).
