Some are average, a lot are good, a few are great - NONE are BAD.
It seems the Guardians have lost some of their "underdog" charm. I guess that's what happens when you are clearly no longer the underdog.
'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2': What the Critics Are Saying
At the end of the day all this says to me is that Marvel may be a victim of its own success. The only thing they are comparing v2 to is v1 - not some "middling" entry from another franchise. The Hollywood Reporter USA Today Entertainment Weekly

I agree, the reviews seem to hype the strong character, emotion, and excitement with several fun surprises.
What else could you ask for?
The only critique seems to be that it's not original anymore, as if the same characters coming back automatically knocks it down a point. IDK. I guess when your first film was so good there isn't much room to go up, the fact that you made something just as good is a bad thing? Who knows.
I can't wait!!!

Apparently so. This only proves that Marvel itself is the gold standard within the genre. Everytime they make a great movie, they'll have to compete with themselves next time out.

It's funny you said that, I was just thinking how hard it was to outdo Winter Soldier. Well I guess you had to kill it with Civil War.
And how many unquestionably good films will they have in a row? Personally I love TDW, but let's call that a question mark just for the sake of debate. Since then they've had TWS, GOTG, AOU, AM, CW, DS, and GOTG2, for 7 consecutive undeniably good films, and a few great films, and then we've got Spiderman which looks good, 8, Ragnorak which looks amazing, 9, Panther seems to have a lot of class so far, 10, can anybody imagine the Russo's screwing up Infinity War? 11, and so on. 11 consecutive good to great films is a fucking incredible accomplishment.

This is what I was trying to say to everyone. There were no bad reviews. But again I wasn't expecting this one to be better. I think people had too high of expectations. I'm still extremely excited. An 86 on rotten tomatoes is still pretty damn good too. The lowest I can see this getting us somewhere in the 70's which even then is still pretty good.

The first film has a 91. I mean, if somebody can't enjoy an 86 after a 91, I don't know what to tell you.

Yeah it was doubtful that it was ever going to live up to the original. Still looks like people are enjoying it, though. Can't wait to check it out.

As long as it's a good movie, I'll walk away happy. I think everyone knows the first Guardians film was lightning in a bottle.

I think critics are going to have to change the way they review movies because of the long-running nature of the MCU saga. It's getting tougher to grade a single entry without looking at what came before or conjecturing about what will come next. SaveSave

Exactly, it's becoming painfully obvious that the traditional movie reviewer is somewhat ill equipped to handle this decidedly unique franchise format. Here's what will happen next. All of the reviewers that feel v.2 is average or bad will go back and reassess v.1 and declare that it too was average or bad. This will happen even if their review of the first movie was initially glowing. I'm calling it now. We're going to get a lot of "there was stardust in my eyes" bullshit. SaveSaveSaveSaveSaveSave

Marvel definitely gives not a damn about that, all the more proof they haven't been bribing them.

Who the hell is going to decide to see or not see GotG2 based on reviews? You can learn something about a film from reviews. If you read between the lines of what is being said about it.

How do not consider this a BAD review? Asked his opinions on the movie after seeing it, our other resident house critic B. Alan Orange seemed less than impressed with the outcome. “It was like seeing Ghostbusters 2 for the first time. The last half of the movie is a big colorful mess. I dare anyone to truly explain what is going on. And it’s a good thing that all the characters are constantly laughing at their own jokes. That means I didn’t have to. This might be one of Marvel’s worst movies. It’s on the verge of being straight up garbage.”

Who the hell is going to decide to see or not see GotG2 based on reviews? Yeah I've never understood people's fascination with critics or rotten tomato scores. The only thing people seem to use RT scores for is an attempt to win an argument on whether a film is good or not. That doesn't change anyone else's opinion on it if they didn't enjoy it. It's just some way for people to try and prove a person's view on a film to be true or false. I watch a lot of Movie Fights with Screen Junkies and I get so sick and tired of how often they bring up Rotten Tomato scores to try and prove that their movie is better because one is an 86 and the other is an 82. I for one don't give 2 shits what any critic has to say. If I want to see a movie, you're damn sure I'm gonna go see it whether it's getting good reviews or bad because I want to form my own opinion and not be influenced by somebody elses. If it gets a fresh on RT, yay for it the fact that it does or doesn't have one won't in any way change my viewing or enjoyment out of the film. A friend of mine, her boyfriend won't go see any movie in theaters with her unless it has a certified fresh on RT of over 90%. I just can't imagine how shitty that would be. He claims to be a film snob but in reality he's just a tool who think he's smarter than anyone because he's figured out how to only see quality movies. To be that reliant on other people's views on a movie to determine whether or not you think it should be good or not I find to be sad.
