Sucked. what are some movie series where you enjoyed the second movie more than you liked the first, but then the third movie you thought was either a huge step down ran out of steam, or just plain sucked.
Teenage mutant Ninja turtles Mighty ducks Blade Austin Powers Ice age Rush hour
I love the second movie of all these franchises, I enjoyed the first but not as much as second, but the third oh my God the third.

Xmen. X2 is my favorite of the original trilogy, X3 was just a jumbled mess.

And the original SPiderman trilogy I agree with both of your examples to an extent and also the first 3 Superman movies.

Yeah, Superman is another for me (as far as the first three Chris Reeve films go).

The Cloverfield series works well for this criteria.

Quite a common occurrence for me actually.
Superman II > Superman > Superman III (though I still like it)
Terminator 2 > The Terminator > Terminator 3
Batman Returns > Batman > Batman Forever
X2: X-Men United > X-Men > X-Men: The Last Stand

I would have said Aliens but that was before I had seen Alien. I loved Aliens so much I didn't think Alien could possibly be as good. Wrong.
I used to like Spider-Man 2 more than Spider-Man but I've flipped on that.
Oh I know. Friday the 13th part II, which I like more than the original and way better than the third.

While I didn't think the third entries necessarily sucked, they were noticeable drop offs in quality from the second movies: Lethal Weapon 3 Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome Return of the Jedi
