So we're not out of the woods yet. Pushers and junkies seem to have been let loose all over the neighborhood where I work. Actually, there is a 1 (or 2 at best) star hotel nearby where the sign always says no vacancy but you never see any tourist there, only junkies and often cops drop by and people are being arrested. So a guy got stabbed multiple times over a drug deal gone bad. Turns out he first got hit on the sidewalk, right next to the building then he moved towards the main entrance, where he fell on the porch, after being stabbed a few times again. I was inside, but near the windows at street level, so despite not seeing the first hit I heard the yell. My initial reaction was just to barely turn my head to take a quick look outside, to see if it was another homeless drunk fight or if it was another residents fight. Then I saw a resident (looking fine and standing up) outside with a nurse and she already had her cellphone to her ear, so I looked through another window and saw a guy on the ground holding his ribs while right leg was covered in blood. He managed to get up by himself but moved towards the building entrance. Now there was a commotion both outside from people passing by and inside by other witnesses. The security guy kept the doors locked because we saw the guy chasing the injured still going up and down the streets, moving after him. Now, we also got our commotion inside has two nurse/orderly/ward assistant were trying to get out, yelling they had to go now or else they would be late for their next shift at another center. They were insulting the security guy, who was calling the 911 (112 in Europe), and everybody else, yelling they needed to get out. I mean, a guy who is bleeding like crazy is laying on the porch while his aggressor is still nearby, a few meters from the entrance and those two employees thought the most urgent thing that should be handled was allowing them to go out... So,the aggressor left (he got caught later), the ambulance came and the police sealed the street for the rest of the day (it was around 15h20 when it happened but when I left at 20h00 the street was still sealed so I had to leave through the back alley). Anyway, next morning (talking about people who have to come in for the day shift starting between 6h30 and 7h30) the street had been re-opened but nobody already present, and I really mean nobody, thought it would be a good idea to post a sign or have someone outside tell everyone to use the back entrance. So we all had to walk in a pool (about 5' x 4') of semi-dried blood (too much to completely dry) to get to the door while a pile of bloody rags and compresses (that had been used on the spot to help the man while the ambulance was on the way) was still right next to the door. It's not that I never saw anything like that before but I thought that it lacked humanity to have left it all there, without cleaning anything over night. I mean, we're not savages or barbarians who simply walk in the blood of the people who had been slain for crying out loud. Well that was last week but junkies and drug dealers are still swarming the area so we have to be careful. A good thing is we don't have to worry much about our residents being outside for now because a new case has been confirmed over the weekend so all residents are locked on their units again. The person who tested positive was roaming freely the activity room so she had the luxury of talking and meeting other residents for a while... Turns out there have been new cases in other centers too. In other news, we have a supply chain issue for white bread in the Montréal Downtown. At least, that's what the delivery company, for one of the biggest producer in the area, told me when I called them because we had not received our order. Whole wheat bread and other types seem fine but the basic slice white bread is short... There have been new rules for the dispatch of PPE, especially medical gloves, but mostly for the L and XL sizes. I guess they'll have to hire more women... And our cardboard container, somehow ended up on its side. I mean, it's a big thing, like this: So right now, it's laying on the side, where the side door is. That means the homeless roaming the back alley got all the cardboard boxes they needed and they left the rest here and there. The store owners who share the back alley with my center will probably file a complaint again... That's the state of things right now, if I'm not talking about personnel shortage and other small issues. If I ever write a book on what it was like in 2020, simply making it through and working in long term care homes, I'll make sure to use this meme: Germany also gets more and more riots, mostly conducted by Muslim migrants from 2015 and on-wards....thx Merkel. www.time24.news/2020/07/nightly-riots-in-frankfurt-violence-against-officials.htmlAnd this is no longer an AfD-politician, but the Police President of Frankfurt. Now they say it is the Corona frustration... I hear you but none of what I described is linked to riots or protests, it's just business as usual like it was pre-COVID19 and pre-George Floyd death. It's simply that unlike most of the time, it's all lining up.

Jesus, what did you do? My lady is really making sure I don't engage with any of these nuts as I usually would. She's terrified someone's going to have a knife or gun or something and I have to hold back for stuff like that when she's around.

'WHAT DID YOU SAY - I DIDN'T HEAR YOU!'
The pussy just peddled off - it was early AM - around 6:30am or so - it was kind of dark - sun's coming up - but there's lots of trees.
If it was another jogger or walker - I doubt the guy would have had the balls to say anything - it was because he was on a bike.
I wear a mask for YOU - you and your loved ones - not knowing if I have it and not wanting to pass it off to somebody else.
It's very disheartening - I'd say I'm in the 10% who actually wear a mask.
It saddens me to an extent I live in a 'Me First' society - where we don't care about the health and well being of our neighbors and community.

What city do you live in again? Our area is overall pretty good with the masks and I have told a couple people in the store to pull up their mask. I complained to Home Depot manager the other day about teh security guard standing outside the exit with his mask pulled down under his chin and the manager acted like I was putting her out. It boggles the mind.

Our Governor put an order out a couple of weeks back to wear masks in public.
This is another reason why it's so disheartening to me. I wish there was a way to police this - i.e. ticket people.
Saddens me. You get stares, smirks, laughter - when I jog by with my bandana on - I just don't get it for the life of me. Especially when I see a pack of people exercising together not social distancing or wearing masks.
I hear you about the Home Depot situation - they're zoos here - there's just ignorance everywhere.

I was at another Home depot and a young girl at the self serve and a guy behind the painting both had their masks pulled down. they just think "I have a mask on, it's good enough" but no other employees say diddly. We live in a country of fucking idiots. It'd be a miracle if Europe ever let Americans in ever again, the people here are so fucknig stupid. I mean, there are still a good portion of idiots who still think Trump is a good person, I mean what does that tell you.

Trump shockingly asked everybody to wear a mask today - stating things are probably going to get worse before they get better.
I was shocked. I'm hoping all of his sheep that live their life by his words take note of this.
You're right about the 'idiot' part. Like the biker I encountered today calling me a 'Baby' - ummmmm. No - I don't want to get anybody else sick - I have compassion for my brother.
We have a local news channel around here that started airing ads on their newscast - 'Wear a mask because you care.' Sadly a lot of people don't care and it's all about them.

Actually, after nearly five months of learning about this virus, if a person with a weak immune system is in a place where they are in danger, then isn't that kind of their fault? Plus, you're a fan of nature shows, aren't ya? Watch those animals out in the wild. If you're weak and stupid, you won't last long. That's just Nature, my man.

Many elderly are alone and have to fend for themselves.
It's kind of sad when I go to the supermarket and I see a 90 year old with a cane hunched over half blind fumbling around for a can of corn moving at a turtles pace.
Take all of the essential workers out there who may have a weak immune system who are working to support their families - healthcare workers, the police, Fedex/UPS drivers, the guy/girl working in the pizza shop/fast food restaurant, the supermarket workers - they're all at risk too.
Then put one of these jackasses I'm talking about who are jogging in packs of 15 (it's jaw dropping) for miles sweating and breathing in each others breath stream right next to each other, not social distancing or wearing masks - walking into a store and they're ignorantly standing next to this 90 year old fumbling for corn or an essential worker stocking shelves - these people didn't ask for this ignorant clown to put them at risk all because he/she is too selfish to put a goddamn mask on - they're just trying to survive.

That son of a bitch with his can of corn should be grateful that he's made it to 90. And once he's at that age, he shouldn't have his craggly ass in a public place after 1PM anyways. Before 1 is grandpa's time, after that it's normal adults time. Grandpa Joe should be home with his pudding by then, and not be selfishly causing regular folks like me and you to have to change our lives. Really, let that be the "New Normal". Before 1PM, the world is open to the old, the weak, and the scared. Then they should be herded home, and the remainder of the day belongs to us with strong minds, bodies, and spirits. Shit, I may be on to something.....

How do you expect him to fend for himself if he has nobody? Or can't afford to pay somebody to go to the store for him and his living off his social security and he's barely making it?

Hey, don't underestimate this poor bastard. He may be sad and pathetic, but he's made it to 90 as a sad and pathetic human being, so obviously he's got some moxie. It's summertime, there's plenty of benches he can sit on all day.....and he's got his corn.....Christ, the guy's doing alright. 👍🌽

What about the essential worker who may be in their 20s and pregnant - who has concern for her unborn child and she's stocking the shelves right next to the 90 year old? What about her - who's trying to make ends meat just to survive? Just like all of these ballplayers out there who are concerned about their pregnant wife?
What about the cashier ringing this ignorant person out - this ignorant person who doesn't support wearing masks in public except for when they're mandated in stores - that cashier may be in their 30s but have underlying health conditions - trying to survive and they have to be around this person who shows no concern for the health and well being of their community?
Why not just put a mask on to show that you care? Like our Governors orders - that go completely ignored at my local trail and State Park - you'd think these people never heard of the Coronavirus at all.
Thank God Trump put a picture of himself with a mask on Twitter yesterday and then had a presser asking everybody to wear masks - him stepping forward like this sadly influences many. Lead by example.
