Remember UK residents...
People advised to stay home for 12 weeks from this weekend:
- Those aged 70 or older.
- Anyone instructed to get a flu jab as an adult each year on medical grounds
- Those who are pregnant.
If you are in either of those categories, get your last shop done today or tomorrow, and if you don't have the capacity to shop online, make arrangements with a friend, family member, or neighbour to do a weekly shop for you when they do their own.
Take time every day to go out for a walk on your own away from people.
Stay safe everyone. And remember if you are self-isolating you are protecting everyone else, and the NHS, not just yourself. You are doing your bit by staying home 👍
If you are not self-isolating... Please avoid unnecessary gatherings, stay home as much as you can, keep 2m apart when out and about, and look out for any of your neighbours in self-isolation.
Thank you to everyone still working essential jobs through this... Minimise your own risks at work.
Together we can stop this bastard getting any further out of hand.
My local independent pet shop lady is shutting shop to self-isolate on Friday (she is in the flu jab group)... Her shop will be shut, but she wants all her regulars to know she is still trading. Ring her up, put your animal supplies order in, and they will be delivered by a friend of hers to your doorstep next day. This is a great workaround... Please keep supporting your local businesses where you can at this time.

Some supermarkets are opening first hour of the day just for people who are self-isolating to be able to go and get some groceries without having to interact with everyone else.
It's a great idea, will give some self-isolating people a semblance of normal life. Hope my local Coop adopts it 👍
But it does depend on everyone else being honest, and not pretending to be self-isolating when they're not, or selfishly thinking "I feel alright so I'll go in that hour anyway".

I've got that going on now. It sucks. It was really just a matter of time, and I'm just glad that I'm not in a high risk group. I'll be fine, but this quarantine I've gotta go through is fucking bad too. I'm mostly through the worst of the symptoms now, but I was advised not to bother with getting tested. It seems likely that I've got the corona, but I was told that I'll probably never know. It won't matter because even if I knew I had it I'd just be told to stay away from people for 2 weeks sinxe there's no treatment, and the limited tests are being reserved for older and less healthy people who may need to be hospitalized if they contract the virus. For me, I just have to feel miserable for a few days and be bored for a couple of weeks. Glad that you are taking it bravely irrespective of whether you have Corona or not. Well done. Just rest and entertain yourself by watching movies. Thanks, I appreciate that. Resting and self quarantining are not easy for me. I get restless very easily, but it's the only thing to do at the moment. I don't expect to feel this shitty for long, and they say you shouldn't be contagious after 2 weeks, so in some way I may have an advantage in that by April I can expect to go back out into the world with an immunity and not risk spreading it. I'll still be careful at that point but I'm looking forward to being able to go back outside and be amongst civilization. I've got some, but not much, work to do from home... so yeah, I'll try to catch up on some movies and TV, some reading, some podcasts, some cleaning, etc, and try not to be too glued to the news. It's just a bummer to not be able to see family and even have to keep my distance from my wife at home... even though the likelihood is that if I have it shes gonna have it too. I just hope she remains asymptomatic.

There's also a whole 'Buddies' series to get into with a whole host of little golden retriever puppies. Air Buddies, Santa Buddies, Snow Buddies, Super Buddies, Space Buddies, etc. Gotta be some masterpieces in there. Which horror movies on YouTube would you suggest?

Last night the Italian army had to send 15 trucks in to just one small town to remove and dispose of yesterday's dead. No individual funerals for them. That is how bad this can get. These lorries are loaded with the deceased... It's a grim procession to mass cremation... RIP 🙏

It would be a piece of piss for surgeries to send every patient on the list a text or something saying "This person is a flu jab recipient" or words to that effect, wouldn't it 🤷♀️

Back then, the Italian hospitals were severely outdated. Going to an Italian hospital was like stepping in a time machine and waking up in an American hospital in 1982. It wouldn’t surprise me if the hospital system is still lagging behind. It doesn’t surprise me one bit that there are so many deaths from this there.

These lorries are loaded with the deceased... It's a grim procession to mass cremation... RIP 🙏 It's mad. Despite my somewhat early adoption of social distancing (by Irish standards) I find myself flip-flopping on whether I'm under/overreacting. I took my sis for her shopping today (she's holed up with her two early teens who I finally convinced on Paddy's day to stay indoors, had to dangle the fact that each day they go out to see friends will add another day that they would have to be separated from my mum and dad. Thank god they adore their grandparents and finally took it seriously.) and there are still people out and about browsing in the shops that are still open. This sticks a little doubt splinter in my mind as to whether things really are as bad as we're all making out. Then I look at those army trucks in Italy and it gives the kick in the balls that needed to banish the self doubt. Yeah all of us who are staying in, unless it is absolutely necessary (medical or provisions), may well be overreacting a little but as I said in another post who gives a shit if we are wrong. I don't wanna see my folks taken early just because I was an idiot. Stay in people.

It is a problem. Are you learning nothing from the experiences of other countries? Lock everything down early enough, you have a chance to curb this thing. Don't, and it gets very bad, very quickly.

The information we are receiving is the Coronavirus runs it's course in two weeks. Most spring breakers are young and healthy. Half won't get it. Of the other half, they won't show any symptoms. Or that'll get the symptoms of the common cold. Whether they have a cold, the flu or the virus, they shouldn't be going around the old and/or sick anyway. In two weeks they won't be a threat anymore. That is the information we are receiving.

Listen to epidemiologists, doctors, professors, and people from badly hit areas pleading with the rest of the world to take this seriously. GET YER HEAD OUT YER ARSE INNIT 🤦 UK deaths are ratcheting up... Not all of them had underlying health conditions... Some in their 50s, and two or three in their 40s.
