The message from Boris still remains clear as ever:- I was having a conversation with one of my relatives regarding immunity and coronavirus. Keep in mind neither me nor the person I was talking to is an expert or has any background in medical education. My observation was that some countries are exhibiting lower death rate against the virus while others are exhibiting higher death rate per 1000 infections. I opined that poorer countries exhibit better survival rate because living in unhygienic conditions compared to living in richer countries makes people's immune system stronger. Even in India, the most poorer state (Bihar) has far better survival rate than richer states like Maharashtra (Bombay) and Delhi. So it seems living conditions from birth may shape how your immune system is prepared for such situation. Also, my observation is that rich people seem to be dying more than poorer people in India. Although, the minority communities in the US and England seems to be faring relatively worse to the virus than majority community. So that goes against my observation in India. But keep in mind there is a difference in my comparison. In India, I contrasted rich people with poor people and not majority with minority. They are somewhat related but not the same. I just noted that not a single person has died of the virus in Laos and Combodia and just 35 have died in Vietnam. Mind you Vietnam's population is 1.5 times that of the UK. But it must be noted that only 1,122 cases of virus has been reported in Vietnam so we can't link better survival rate with race. It could be argued that either infection has not reached these south East Asian countries or they are better at protecting themselves against getting infected. Countries like Singapore though have exhibited extremely low deaths (28) in spite of many cases (57,752 cases). So here we can say that these people have fared much better in surviving the virus. Don't know the racial make up but it seems Singapore has majority of people with Chinese ancestry and significant minority of Indians and Malays. I read an article not so long ago that hypothesized poorer people tend to be leaner and fitter because they do more themselves and tend be more active in general which allows them to deal with Covid a lot better.

Yeah, that seems to be the most logical reason for why poorer people are able to see off the virus better. In my hometown one of the persons involved in collecting the samples of those who get tested is my old acquaintance and he along with his team collects around 400+ samples on a daily basis. When I asked him who are the people who are showing more symptoms, he said the economically better off people. It seems the labourers and migrants who have returned may have brought the coronavirus to my province from the metros but they are not the ones who are dying. The people who are dying are those who lead sedentary lifestyles such as those whose jobs don't involve much physical labour and who are usually economically well placed.

It's taken a while but i now know someone who has Coronavirus and i spoke to them on the phone yesterday and it was fascinating. Firstly they are ok which is the main thing. They have medium to mild symptoms. They are extremely tired and ache all over with mild cold like symptoms but they are getting better and they have been isolating for the past week.
What was fascinating is what they thought of the situation. They have no idea how they got it and what from. They went for a flu jab just before the symptoms started so assumed it was a reaction to that and carried on with their usual routine but a nagging doubt told them to get tested and they were shocked when the result came back positive. They racked their brains and contacted all the people they thought they remembered being in contact with since they started feeling unwell and it turns out they've passed it to three others that they know of with more test results yet to come back. Worryingly one result yet to come back is an elderly parent who is symptomatic.
They feel very guilty about unknowingly infecting others and they are worried sick about their parent and on top of that they are worrying about what people may think about them moving forward. It's like they feel shameful about the situation. All i could do was wish them luck.

"You have covid therefore you must have broken the rules and you are selfish and stupid." I think in some circumstances the blame is warranted but in this instance i don't think so. They think they have obeyed all the rules and thy think they've been careful trying to keep a safe distance to people, wearing a mask and washing their hands but they still ended up getting it and they can't figure out where they slipped up.

"You have covid therefore you must have broken the rules and you are selfish and stupid." I think Indian media did a lot of that during the early stages of the pandemic. The word they used in Hindi was "pakdaya", the English equivalent would be another corona patient "caught" or "grabbed". As if being infected itself was some sort of crime. That's very wrong way addressing. Same they did to Indians who had returned from Italy from vacation during march. Yes, in some cases surely there are idiots. Like one student came back from UK and then ignored quarantine rules because his mother was some important government officer. But usually many people who get infected don't know it and are following acceptable level of precaution. I believe that usually you get infected by another person if you have extended interaction in close distance (over 10 minutes and within 5 feet). Masks seem to be quite effective when you have low period interaction or passing interaction with a infected person. In my opinion while you are in supermarket which is not very crowded and wearing a mask and don't stay for more than 10 minutes then you are quite safe. But if you sit with another person for a considerable time (let's say in a bar for over 15 minutes) then you are more likely to get infected.

They think it's their right to go around without mask. Right trumps sense of duty for these people. As if potentially saving an elderly or a vulnerable person is not as important as not wearing a mask. Most of them are also attached to some sort of illogical conspiracy theory.

I'm trying to take here derangement and endangerment seriously, but she has such a silly, folksy sound accent.
