Just reached Ireland. The east side. I'm expecting the whole place to be infected by Monday and I dont even have one of those wee masks yet. We're supposed to go to Ireland in May but I'm guessing we'll be canceling. Luckily I got the insurance on the tickets.

What I want to know is this:-
Once the panic ends and everyone accepts that the death rate is, broadly speaking, no different from the flu do we continue to give this special status? Or does it just fold in with and generally be referred to as a type of flu? Or will it simply disappear again?

What happens if churches get cancelled 🤷♀️ I have to attend Mass every Sunday and on Holy Days of Obligation. It's mortal sin not to. Will the Pope give us a special dispensation not to? I suppose online Mass could be arranged? If football in England gets curtailed, the EPL have said Liverpool are not guaranteed to receive the League title. So many questions. Fewer people were out in front of the Pope yesterday.

SXSW is a week away. Music festival, film festival, tech festival, gaming festival, and education conference. 417,400 attended last year, 26% from 105 countries outside the U.S. Petitions are about to cancel it but doubt it will happen. In the sports world, it'll be interesting to see attendance at the NFL draft in Vegas.

Some selfish muppet on the wireless has bought 10 litres of hand sanitiser gel for his family.
10 litres! What are they doing, drinking the stuff 😒
It's people like that why everyone else can't for love nor money buy a tiny pocket bottle for sensible use.
It's normally in plentiful supply here, and the only people that buy it tends to be people with dogs, for after they pick up their poo when out walking. Totally sold out everywhere now.

The death rate is significantly higher than normal flu: www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/03/yes-worse-than-flu-busting-coronavirus-myths-covid-19Many individuals who get coronavirus will experience nothing worse than seasonal flu symptoms, but the overall profile of the disease, including its mortality rate, looks more serious. At the start of an outbreak the apparent mortality rate can be an overestimate if a lot of mild cases are being missed. But this week, a WHO expert suggested that this has not been the case with Covid-19. Bruce Aylward, who led an international mission to China to learn about the virus and the country’s response, said the evidence did not suggest that we were only seeing the tip of the iceberg. If borne out by further testing, this could mean that current estimates of a roughly 1% fatality rate are accurate. This would make Covid-19 about 10 times more deadly than seasonal flu, which is estimated to kill between 290,000 and 650,000 people a year globally.

Where I work just postponed all group gathering type events. We do have offices in some of the listed countries but the main office where I am is in Philly, as far as I know no reported cases in all of PA. Maybe if I sneeze funny they’ll send me home.

NBA is telling players not to high five fans as they come onto and leave the court.
Yesterday I shook my doctor's hand at the beginning of an appointment. He immediately gave me a three minute lecture about why I should stop doing that.

But the vast majority of these people are very old with a frail health if not already (fatally) ill. It's just the last straw on their camel's back.

NBA players are the perfect examples of the spoiled hypocritical modern day athlete, so of course it will be the fans fault if any of them get the virus. Believe me, if you high five a guy like Joel Embiid, coronavirus might be the least of your concerns.

I don't think it's hit Ohio yet and I don't care enough to check. I'm no more worried about getting it than I am getting the flu... which is to say I'm not worried. If I get it, which is very likely, it's not like there's a strong possibility of dying from it. I'll probably just have a cough and be over with it in a week.

I saw someone wearing a virus mask for the first time today. But I read that the airborne respiratory droplets from other people's coughs and splutters can possibly molest your eyes and get in that way. There is no security The only thing a mask does is to stop your infected snot from splashing into other peoples eyes. Or maybe stop you from transferring slobber coating the train handrail, into your nose because you can't pick it.

When we get 1 inch of snow here - the supermarkets are flooded with panicked shoppers buying -
Milk Eggs Bread
Apparently French Toast comforts those here in fear of 1 inch of snow
