Will homemade face coverings (bandanas) be legal at the moment? Yes, I believe homemade masks will do here in Mumbai. They just want your face covered so that you don't sneeze or cough on others. I am not sure how effective masks are but homemade masks will work in Mumbai. Not sure if that would in any other country where masks may be mandatory. I just tie a scarf over the lower part of my face, to cover my nose and mouth. I don't have a mask. I was out shopping yesterday evening in Edinburgh and hardly anyone had a mask or equivalent on - even the numpties serving in Lidl. Crazy. One customer was coughing without covering his mouth at all. Absolute shithead.

Bugged out of this thread a little while back. So are there still any "sure it's only a flu" naysayers left on here or...? movieliker hasn't really been playing it down much lately.

That's funny but also absurd. Really, what's the best that policeman was hoping to achieve? Arrest a guy running with no one anywhere near him and potentially catch from / infect someone with Coronavirus just to do "his job"?! Obviously one of those bored cops putting on a tough guy routine who likes to puff his chest out and intimidate because he has a badge and like to show he has authority

The problem with the Coronavirus is not that it's more severe than the flu. But that there is no vaccine. And no medical system was ready for it. I guarantee, if there was no vaccine for the flu, the pandemic caused by the flu would be much worse.

A deadlier flu with no vaccine, which had we handled the way we handled the flu, even before the vaccine, could have killed hundreds of thousands or millions. The 2017 flu was particularly deadly because the vaccines were only 40% effective.

So it is more severe than the flu in the actual world we live in! Weren't you burbling recently about how only 1% of people could be killed in the UK - that's 670,000 people! Or maybe it was only 250,000. I forget, but come on tae fuck, you're losing the run of yourself.

Covid-19 has been scientifically proven that it is more aggressive to the respiratory system than all the known flu variants so logically to me that must mean it's more deadly.

The hospitals in our region have no Corona patients. I, and no-one of my family, friends, or co-workers or whatever know of a single person who has or had it. But this conclusion was already made earlier by Chinese studies and cases like the cruise ship Diamond Princess with a isolated control group. www.statnews.com/2020/03/17/a-fiasco-in-the-making-as-the-coronavirus-pandemic-takes-hold-we-are-making-decisions-without-reliable-data/I guess most people did not even notice that they had it, or thought it was just a cold. And the coughing lasted for weeks but eventually everything went to normal. But according to the doctor it was only a cold. One of the my older co-workers needed even the assistance of an emergency doctor and told me that his cold was a pretty wicked one...but he and his wife weren't tested - it was a cold. PS: And one of your nurses should come at me...if she does not happen to be about 2 meters tall, 100 kg+ and with a proper combat training, she would be the one who ended up as mincemeat. But I guess she would only go for a rant what a brick I am - if at all. In the last 30 years I had only one little brawl and that was ended very quickly. I don't like violence, but if you go after me I won't hold back...so be careful with your (empty) threats.

Oh and the third shopping trip under lock down happened yesterday. Once again my wife went and she says there was significantly less people about and the queue to get in the supermarket was only 30 minutes rather than an hour and a half for the first shop. There was no police around this time but she says everyone was very respectful. So it looks like people are behaving well here. I haven't seen civilization for nearly three weeks now which is starting to feel a bit weird. For instance since i learnt to drive i've never not driven for so long.

Our hospitals have never seen anything like this in the history of the NHS, which was founded in 1948. Nothing has come anywhere close. It’s like one of Dante’s circles of Hell in many of our hospitals. People who are saying it’s like the flu are talking out of their arses. One can only imagine how much worse it would be had we not had social isolation imposed on us.

I don't think there is any conclusive study that 96% (or that only 1 in 6 know that they are Covid-19 positive) of all cases are unreported. First of all, I would say that you should be proud of living in a country that has shown the world better management during crisis and better healthcare system. But not all nations are doing the same. Italy's death rate is 12.875% as of this date based on reported cases. They have now tested close to 1 million people so you cannot even say that the unreported cases could be very high. Likewise, countries like Spain, the UK, Indonesia, Philippines are seeing very high death rates. I could understand that poorer Asian countries could have many unreported cases but there is very little argument to support that countries like Spain, Belgium, France etc have very high unreported cases. Articles from Italy, Spain, the UK have stressed on how difficult it has been to manage this crisis. And the more important thing is that we are still not over it. Even if Italy's daily deaths are declining, it is mainly owing to enforced social distancing. We are still not in a position to resume normal lives.
