I never knew he did a painting of books, I would love a reprint of "French Novels." I've read about 40% of the books listed but that was a long time ago.

I remember from his biography that he was a voracious reader. I learned about Pierre Loti from said biography, figured it would be an author I might enjoy and then downloaded some of his books - they are all in public domain, if you can read French. I haven't read any of them yet, though.

I do sometimes but all the Zola novels I’ve read were translations.

Zola is one of my favourite writers. Do you read in French?
Only one, L’Assommoir. I haven’t read them all but the others on the Rougon Macquart series that I’ve read have been translations.
