I have a good friend who keeps trying to tell me that Sale is just as good as Pedro. He's been trying to convince me of this for like 4 or 5 years now.
Puh-leese.......

He's not, but then again few people are. To say that so and so isn't as good as Pedro is hardly a slight. In his prime and when healthy, Chris Sale is an elite pitcher, definitely in the top echelon. He had 7 straight years of finishing in the top 6 of Cy Young voting. But last year he wasn't great (although not as bad as people seem to think, he developed long ballitis as did a lot of pitchers) but if he goes down this year with an elbow issue, it won't be pretty given that he'll be 31 at the end of the month.

I just looked up his stats, expecting to see some good postseason numbers. Man, he really hasn't been good at all in the playoffs. Not a single signature dominant outing among his appearance, not even close. There's not even a single "quality start," that's pretty rough.

No, you're missing my point. My buddy was saying that Chris Sale was just as big and successful as a Red Sox free agent signing as Pedro was, which is totally wrong. The next time Chris Sale wins a huge game pitching for the Sox in a hostile environment in September will be the first time he does it. Hey, on a Tuesday night in June against the Royals? There's no one better than Chris Sale. A monster game in late September in the Bronx? Sorry, it ain't happening.

Yeah, after I responded to you, I checked out his postseason numbers and made my follow-up post thereafter. Pretty rough comparison. Pedro was money. Chris Sale ain't shit.

I'm betting he isn't the best guy to have in a clubhouse either. He oozes "surly". And there was the infamous "uniform cut up" when he was in Chicago. Could be an isolated incident (those unis were dopey).
Nice move by Dumbrowski. His velocity dips, hey, lets sign him to an unnecessary extension!
Red Sox rotation could be a nightmare. E-Rod, Eovaldi (until the end of April, when he gets hurt) when three days of rain? Ryan Weber? Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Let's hope the Sox don't lose a draft pick with the sign stealing investigation, they're going to need all the help they can get.

With a healthy Sale, it wouldn't be that bad. That's assuming that Eovaldi can stay upright. And Martin Perez might be a nice back of the rotation guy. I admit I'm grasping here, but why not? Of course Chris Sale is Chris Sale, so the rotation is already a mess in March. Rick Porcello ain't looking so bad these days, huh? 😉

Doesn't sound like much but it's usually a sign of impending doom. Either a pitcher's numbers go into terminal decline or he's on an operating table. In 2018, when the Sox lead was being shaved a bit, he was to start game one of a big series against the Yankees. But he put himself on the DL with a hangnail or some other catastrophe. Didn't matter, Brian Johnson and Steve Pearce stepped up. But it showed me what a gutless bitch Sale is.
