How about best three album run?
U2 - I challenge you to find a better (musically or commercially) three album run in history than The Joshua Tree, Rattle and Hum, and Achtung Baby. You could argue any three consecutive Beatles albums, or any three Zep albums were as good, but I don't know that they were better. And of course by volume you could say the Beatles, Zep, or the Stones were better bands, that isn't what I'm arguing here. I just think that three album run is as good as it gets for rock music. Even the deep cuts are great.
An argument can be made for Guns n Roses Appetite for Destruction, GNR Lies, and Use Your Illusion Double Album, but honestly I don't think Use Your Illusion was very good overall. And I mean hell, any of these bands I've mentioned, as well as the Doors, Van Halen, The Police, and probably 25 other bands have equally legendary greatest hits compilations. But again, for consecutive albums, those three U2 albums are at the top of the leaderboard for me.
Also as an aside, I'd put the Beastie Boys Check Your Head, Ill Communication, and Hello Nasty up against any three albums in history, but that's hip hop/rock fusion and not universally beloved the way classic rock bands are.

Three album run? U2?? They never made one decent whole album, never mind 3 in a row.
The Beatles went Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt Peppers, for Christ sake. Even White Album, Let It Be, Abbey Road is far superior to anything U2 ever did.
The Stones went Beggars Banquet, Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers, then Exile on Main Street.....an incredible run.
Any combination of Led Zeppelin's first 4 albums blows U2 out of the water.
Pink Floyd went Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, then Animals, even throw in The Wall after that.
Neil Young did Everybody Knows This is Nowhere, After The Goldrush, then Harvest.
The Who went from The Who Sell Out, to Tommy, to Live At Leeds, to Who's Next, to Quadrophenia.
U2? No.....

The two key words. It's all personal taste. personally, I thought Rattle and Hum was spotty, The only good G&R album was Illusion 2 and I'll keep my thoughts about the Beastie Boys to myself. Would I put up any of those to the three album run of the Beatles (Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt. Pepper) or the Stones (Let it Bleed, Sticky Fingers, and Exile on Main St.), noooooooooooo. And we all can use those two highlighted words here.
The Beastly Boys? Really? No, I promised...

Well it took a while but my post finally generated some conversation. Of course it's my opinion, these are all opinions. That's the point.

In 2017 King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard released 5 excellent albums in ONE YEAR. Flying Microtonal Banana (2017) Murder of the Universe (2017) Sketches of Brunswick East (2017; with Mild High Club) Polygondwanaland (2017) Gumboot Soup (2017) Those guys kick serious ass.

Um, how about the entire Tool discography. I will take Tool's worst album over any U2 album. Also, ever heard of Pink Floyd? I think the stretch of Dark Side of the Moon, Animals, The Wall, and Wish you Were Here would dominate any band's best stretch.

Tool and Pink Floyd are the two greatest bands of all time. /thread Saw Tool at Barclays in November, first time seeing them since 1993, it was AWESOME. They just announced a slew of shows so I’m catching them next month at Nassau Coliseum. Check to see if they’re playing near you.
