Yes, China is to blame for the shit that comes out of Hollywood. You either are a racist troll or just a fucking idiot. Or both. Both, for sure.

^That's exactly what a Communist would say. And your OP is exactly what a racist fuckwit with the IQ and artistic perception of a turnip would write, so there you go. You are a walking joke, and everyone knows it.

The year 1994 is an odd dividing line to decide when American movies were suddenly awful. Pulp Fiction, Shawshank Redemption, True Lies, Speed, Lion King, Serial Mom, The Client, The Professional, Dumb and Dumber, The Last Seduction: among the best movies in one of the best movie years in my lifetime. Yes, I left Forrest Gump off on purpose. As for what does or doesn't get shown in China, I'm glad the theatrical cut of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood stayed intact, causing it not to be shown in China. Inspite of having Chinese co-producers.

I’m not sure what the exact year is that things started really going downhill but when Hollywood began pandering to the Chinese Communist Party for their theatrical releases the quality of scripts has declined overall. No offense to then average Chinese individual but their society has literally climbed out of mere peasantry to having a small middle class within the past 20 years. Literacy rates were and still are minimal especially o it side of the major cosmopolitan cities. Censorship is high. I have to agree that overall the quality of films have gone downhill overall since Chinese influence has taken some control over funding of films. Midway was a pretty good film that had Chinese backing but that’s mainly because we had the same enemy during the war.

...ruined everything when they started allowing Hollywood movies into their garbage Communist country. Now that the coronavirus is taking Chinese box office out of the equation, Hollywood should start making movies for Americans again. This is a huge opportunity. Discuss. The Meg is on such EXAMPLE. Yep, and Michael Bay's garbage Transformers movies are probably the best example to illustrate my point. China loves those movies.

Plenty of great movies have been released since 1994. Name some. Since taste is obviously subjective, my choice of movies that I consider to be 'great' won't necessarily align with yours, but a few examples I'd give would be: Casino (1995) American History X (1999) Fight Club (1999) The Dark Knight (2008) Toy Story 3 (2010) Edge of Tomorrow (2014) Whiplash (2014)

In general big blockbuster movies have become simplified for international audiences to follow who aren't used to Western cultural style story telling.

Yeah, 1999 was such a shitty year for movies. Yeah, it truly was. Only Big Daddy, The Spy Who Shagged Me, and Office Space were good and American Beauty was decent. Everything else was shitty. I wonder how the communist government feels about Fight Club?
