I mean, fashion exists for us. Men don't have a clue. Except for gays. And they make us look great. Almost all the great fashion designers are gay. And yet there are women with homophobia. Why is that?

Tommy Hilfiger has a wife and children. Better question, why are so few women well-known fashion designers? Even assuming all gay men were interested in women's fashions, or any fashions, they make up less than 5% of men. Whereas a majority of women are interested in fashion.

They learned by example from the homophobia of their fathers, brothers, & boyfriends/husbands.

It's simple. Women are afraid of male competition. Pho-bi-a.

What I find interesting is how women can be racist or sexist at all. Have we already forgotten that women used to be considered second class citizens themselves?

I don't believe in that competition theory. Usually, it's gay men who compete against us and not the other way around. I agree that it's a copy of a bad thing. And I agree with Nostalgia. Being a second class citizen sucks. Why wish upon others what you has discriminated you?

Why is that? I have no idea, but I know I am missing a good gay man in my life. I need Tim Gunn. He's like my dream date for the day.

They learned by example from the homophobia of their fathers, brothers, & boyfriends/husbands. Yes, and this is why we need to look at what we are putting out and why, regarding our values and beliefs when it comes to children and this is not just in respect to homophobia. Children have an innate need to be accepted and impress upon their parents, seeking constant approval. They are like sponges and conditioning is a major determining factor. At the end of the day, it all comes down to judgement, condemnation, expectations and control, and telling children what is right and wrong and how they should be living their lives. This can be a very limiting, ignorant and dangerous approach, especially when it is not causing any direct harm to them or others. Of course young children need to be guided and nurtured, but the approach appears to be all about self, and beliefs that can hold us back. I'm surprised that you haven't seized on the fact that bd74 is only naming men as sources of homophobia: fathers, brothers, & boyfriends/husbands.

Even assuming all gay men were interested in women's fashions, or any fashions, they make up less than 5% of men. Whereas a majority of women are interested in fashion.Over the past decades though, it appears that females have dominated the costume design Academy Awards and won more awards than males. I only checked back as far as 1970, but women have won over 30 costume design Oscars over the past 47yrs. Perhaps in the film arts, their contributions are far greater acknowledged than brand name designs for some reason. The male label may have a more resonant ring for some reason, especially regarding females fashions. It perhaps makes it appealing that a male is interested in female designs. Of course they loan their names to male fashion as well, but for a man, it appears more acceptable to wear something with a guy label, than a gal one. It's not cool otherwise. Of course it's all just a double standard, born out of societal conditioning, especially when males surround themselves with femininity in their lives from an external aspect. If you read movie credits it does seem that more women than men design and create movie costumes. If you went back further looking at Oscar winners, Edith Head won multiple awards in the 50's and 60's. But on shows like "Project Runway" there are always about equal numbers of men and women competing in design. I would expect lots more women given how few gay men there are compared to all women. In numbers there are at least ten times as many women as there are gay men (forgetting about straight men since so few of them go into fashion). Does the show just even things up for the viewers or are there really larger proportions of men than women working in design creation? It's the same with chefs. More male chefs become famous and rich, but women are traditionally the cooks. My grandmother was a great cook but only did so for her family. Are men just more ambitious?

Sadly some heterosexual women are homophobic. I had a number girls make out with me when I was younger only to push me away and call me a dyke and other hateful names and tell me to stay away from them and it hurt and was the last thing I needed after my parents abandoned me and my best friend's parents wouldn't let me see her anymore. I believe some of them might have been confused about their sexuality at the time and back then being homosexual or bisexual was something that was looked down on and people weren’t as open about it as they are now which was one of the reasons I chose to date guys for a while instead but it still hurt.

I hate to blame religion, but that certainly plays a role.
I've often wondered how POC can be homophobic, or how queer people can be racist. Bigotry is a powerful force.

Why is that? That's ridiculous. Ralph Lauren isn't gay. Effiminiate.ehh. Perhaps. But he is straight. Actually , most of the best designers in the world are men. Some straight some gay.
