Of the two dancers shown? Frankly, I prefer Donald O'Connor.
(Mainly because I think Cosmo Brown is a much more likable--and funny-- character than Don Lockwood.) Seriously, though, between Astaire and Kelly, it would be tough to choose--when it comes to their dancing. They're both superb, in their very different ways. However, if I had to say which screen personality I prefer, I'd go with Astaire. He generally comes off as more sincere and sometimes even bashful, while Kelly's persona tends to be brash, self-promoting, and a little grating. But for all the differences in their styles, they made a great twosome in this number from Ziegfeld Follies:
