At this point, I'm just assuming that all the movies I was looking forward to in the coming months are going to get delayed.

What's really going to sting the studios is they are having to suspend filming of movies in production and send everyone home. That is going to eat into the second yacht budget. Tom Hanks and his wife have tested positive so not only is his life in danger considering his age but that movie is as dead as Elvis for the time being. What don’t the media get that the flu kills more people each year!!! So does diarrhea, but SARS-CoV-2 is way more infectious and deadly than the flu. For context, covid19 kills 1 out 10 patients with heart disease, 1 out of 20 patients with high blood pressure, and I can't remember the numbers for people with any kind of respiratory problems but it's high. And 15-20% of people who get the virus require hospitalization so if the virus spreads too quickly it could overwhelm hospitals and treatment will not be possible for some people so the death rate will increase. The quarantines and travel restrictions are measures to slow the spread of the virus to prevent health care from being overwhelmed. I went in for a checkup yesterday and they didn't have anyone to take a blood sample because phlebotomists were all reassigned to do coronavirus checks and my doc didn't want to risk sending me to the testing station.

It’s only really affecting people with other health problems. It’s not as scary as the media makes it out to be. Quit buying into fear porn. Honestly I can understand a month or so just to be careful, but a year is just pushing it. This isn’t helping the studios at all. This is just pissing people off. I’m not saying don’t be cautious, but people are acting like it’s the end of the world. They act like this with every new disease. They didn’t postpone movies for the flu, so don’t for the virus either.

In the beginning I too thought we were overreacting because the media loves to sensationalize everything but the reason you aren't seeing a lot more death is because of the actions taken by medical professionals and politicians to slow transmission of the virus and the advanced health care available. Take those away and the death rate will significantly increase. Media sensationalizing is one thing but you would be wise to defer to the judgement of medical professionals. edit; also "people with underlying health problems" includes is a lot of people.

This is unprecedented. How long will this last? When do you just give in and realize this is an unavoidable bad situation?

It's definitely true people recover and certain people are more vulnerable to it (if you ain't one, now ain't the time to gloat either) but word on the street is the virus can live in the air or on the surface of things for up to 3 days. Apparently it lasts especially long on the surface of glass.

So far, that appears to be the case.
