I only wached The Crazies remake. Wasn't very good. Yeah - it sucked - forgettable flick - had hope of a 28 Days Later kind of movie.
Saw Doctor Sleep last weekend - the follow up to The Shining.
Odd - still don't know how I feel about it - part of me wishes they just left it alone - I've heard others argue you can just view it as a stand alone movie - which I kind of feel is impossible since it had so much of 'The Shining' in it - and Danny was the main character - how one can view that as a stand alone movie is beyond me but to each their won.
I really liked it. I'd heard really mixed to negative things about the book, but j like Mike Flanagan's stuff pretty much across the board. I think he did a great job with a really difficult task, which was to not only make some of the worst of Stephen King's impulses work on screen and not come off as super-cheesey, and not only to make the story of the new book and the original movie mesh well even though they go in different directions, but to also reconcile the storyetelling and style of the Kubrick film with the Stephen King novels even though King hated Kubrick's adaptation so much. I think there are moments where it may have gone a step or two too far in that last act. You're right that it's impossible to watch it as it's own standalone film, since the 3rd act basically takes place inside of The Kubrick film. I like what it does there save for a few key decisions, and one in particular. I'm sure you know exactly which one I mean, and even that I think could really work, but maybe should have been handled slightly differently... especially one quick moment that clearly takes it too far. But I was won over by then. I think the film is really visually inventive and strikes a perfect tone. It's not perfect but I think it gets way more right than wrong, and by the time some of those come up I had already been won over. I'm looking forward to seeing it again, and I heard that the Bluray release has a slightly longer director's cut with chapter breaks and titles. If it ends up streaming anywhere I'll be interested in watching that like a miniseries.

I loved the 'cameos' so to speak that we got of all the haunting characters - i.e. the old woman in the tub, the Twins, Jack (wish it was actually Nicholson), the massive wall/wave of blood - it really worked well for me; however one thing was missing that haunted me greatly as a kid - the party goer dressed in the bear suit.
To this day - that scene in The Shining still creeps me out.

Nah, I'm not into supernatural stuff. Don't believe in it. Interesting.
Interesting indeed.
Are you of the belief that we're alone in the Universe?
The universe is big enough for other races to exist. So big we'll probably never find them.

I'm thinking of cracking a book open. I've got a shelf full of Bukowski and Fante right in front of me. Or maybe some more Kerouac.

I think I'm going to try and read The Bible all the way through.
Has anybody ever accomplished this?

Podcasts, youtube, dvds, work...
Glass half full - this is the second week of March. If this were the first week of October staring down 6 months of darkness...? In a few days, I'll be outside more often walking & breathing on hikes & whatever.

As opposed to all the four legged flying birds 🧐 Don't you have dragons, wherever you live? Yes, dragons are birds.

It will suck in the hours between, 5pm and 9pm, and definitely will be felt on a Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
Other than that, though, it really has no effect on me whatsoever.

Suppose we are having this same conversation 12 months from now? Most Americans have lived without one sports for a time, due to strikes/lockouts. But all sports, ugh.
I feel for players and teams that are going to lose so much. College seniors, teams like San Diego State and Dayton, who are having epic seasons. Teams in the NHL and NBA who were built to win now. Senior students of teams having championship caliber seasons. Cheerleaders, band people, etc.

The bear suit guy in a background cameo moment might've been nice.. maybe he's in there somewhere and I didn't notice. I guess we are doing spoilers... I tried to tiptoe around them, but now that we're doing it: I liked the Jack scene, but I didn't really like seeing Henry Thomas' face. I thought it should have been obscured a bit or something. They were never going to get Nicholson, and even if they did they'd have to do that weird digital de-aging. I would have liked it if we just never got a clear look at his face, and maybe if he'd tried to sound a little bit more like him. But even that was fine, but there was a brief shot where they tried to replicate him on the stairs making that crazy psycho face and that was just a few steps too far for me. If that was there it should have been like less than a second long.. make it like 10 frames or something because that didn't work when clearly viewed but maybe they'd have gotten away with it more as a brief flash. All the other ghosts were pretty well cast and I was fine with seeing them because none are as immediately identifiable and distinct as Nicholson. Even recasting the Shelley Duvall role was ok, and I thought necessary since she was a real part of the story. But I didn't need the flash of cowering with the knife next to the door, even though she did great job replicating it... but again, maybe they get away with it in a quick flash. But man, did they nail the recasting of the Scatman Cruthers role. That dude was fucking spot on.
