With my ticket already purchased to watch “A Quiet Place 2” on IMAX tomorrow, I figured it would be a good idea to refresh my memory and re-watch the first part. So that’s what I did yesterday evening. It’s a pretty effective horror/thriller. Looking forward to the sequel.
I do have one nit to pick though: that nail on the stair doesn’t make any sense. First of all, what was it even doing there? And it was previously flat against the wooden step, then got caught up on a bag that Emily Blunt was carrying and ended up raised. Two problems with that: first, in a world where making a noise can get you killed, how stupid would she have to be to just keep pulling when the bag got stuck, instead of carefully investigating why it got stuck and freeing it? Second, is it even possible to bend a metal nail by pulling at it with a bag made of cloth? Wouldn’t the cloth just rip?

And honestly the bag thing isn't half as stupid as getting pregnant in a world where you can't make noise.

So what did you think of the previous film you mentioned?

So what did you think of the previous film you mentioned? Excellent
Highly recommend it
One before that had an interesting premise but was more of kids movie - would have enjoyed it if I was still in high school. Would like to see it redone with Adults spontaneously combusting as opposed to high school kids. I've seen and sat through a lot worse.

Guys... A Quiet Place 2 sucked. I mean it's ok, but it's just the same movie over again, minus the compelling family dynamic and the mystery. There isn't much to say about it. Not really surprising, I never thought they needed to make a sequel anyway. Still kind of a bummer to wait that long for something so stale. It sets up an even shittier sequel that I'll be skipping if they bother making it. Just rewatch the first one.

Dark Side of the Ring: Becoming Warrior
Years ago a DVD was put 'Self Destruction of the Ultimate Warrior' - never saw it but became somewhat famous for completely burying the Ultimate Warrior
Guy was then celebrated right before his death and put in the HOF - and seemed to have been celebrated afterwards as well
Dark of the Ring is great - but it's happening again - 20 minutes into this and he's getting buried. Obviously not a good man at times but interesting to see the direction they're going with this.
Dark Side has done numerous deceased wrestlers; however has managed to put a positive spin on them

I liked it! I mean, yes, it is unnecessary, but aside from that I thought it maintained a pretty good level of tension throughout.

To be honest - I didn't give the 1st a fair shot. Maybe it's time for a rewatch
Within 10-15 minutes I was bored to tears and then just had it on in the background
I don't recall any talking/or limited talking in this - made for a hard watch
If I'm thinking of the same movie. What's baffling to me is I enjoy Moster/Insect movies - or movies like Starship Troopers......

If you didn’t like the first, there is a very good chance you won’t like the second either. There are very few dialogues in the first movie, other than subtitled sign language exchanges.

I liked it! I mean, yes, it is unnecessary, but aside from that I thought it maintained a pretty good level of tension throughout. Hard to believe it was also written by Krasinski because it felt like a bad remake of the original, written by someone who didn't understand what made it great. The prologue served no purpose other than to give Krasinski some screen time. We know the creatures came from space. It isn't much for world building and it served no purpose to the plot. They used the same weakness to defeat the creatures again, just in a different setting. We saw so much of the creatures that I felt like they really lost their luster.
It was paced well, it certainly never dragged at 1h37m. And the performances were solid. But storywise there wasn't anything there. They could've explored the breakdown of society with the group of creeps for a bit, or given us more than one scene with Djimon Hounsou's group. There was plenty of time to raise the stakes by showing us something about this world. A sequel should expand on the premise, this just gave us the same thing over and over again. Try to be quiet, accidentally make noise drawing the creatures in, blast them with feedback and blow their head off. Rinse, repeat.
It also relied too heavily on horror trope jump scares. I know it's a creature film, but it worked really well the first time around because there was so much mystery behind what these things were and how on earth you could defeat them. They showed us too much of the creatures and we already know their weakness, you're just waiting for the moment. It wasn't as tension filled in that regard.
Speaking of horror tropes. I've often called A Quiet Place the anti-horror movie because horror characters are morons who make terrible decisions to split up the group and die alone for no reason. In AQP, the family comes together to survive, time and again. Nobody bails, even after they have a fight they run toward danger to help each other out-- because you have to stick together in a world like this.
In this movie that all gets thrown out the window, everyone just kind of goes off on random side missions. Evelyn chastises Emmet for not wanting to help people, while she decides it's a bad idea for Regan to want to help whomever is sending that signal over the radio. Marcus is left alone with the baby and he decides it would be a good idea to roam around the warehouse alone with a gimpy leg. Regan decides to leave the family and take the majority of their supplies with her-- including the gun, the radio and of course her hearing aid which are their only defense! It's completely insane that any of them would do this after what happened in the first flick. And I was rolling my eyes after the 15th 'I think the creature is gone, oh no it's still here' jump scare scenario. There are much worse movies out there, but this was as generic as I guess I expected when it was announced. It didn't need a sequel and the way this film turned out is proof of that.

Not really surprising, I never thought they needed to make a sequel anyway. Still kind of a bummer to wait that long for something so stale. It sets up an even shittier sequel that I'll be skipping if they bother making it. Just rewatch the first one. I have a huge admiration for Emily Blunt, and I like her husband, but I already disliked the first one (which I saw in cinema). The premise is just beyond the suspension of disbelief for me. An animal that limited (no sight or smell) and highly effective to manipulation -if they charge furiously at any target, straight ahead, I would just mount long spikes in front of a speaker trap that would impale them- would pose no threat to the human species. But that also goes for "The Walking Dead" and any Zombie movies with lame and dumb zombies, unlike "28 days later" with fast zombies incorporated with the intelligence of a predatory animal. The later has zombies as real threat, while the aforementioned Walking Deads creates only tension and drama through the utter stupidity of the human faction(s) like venturing into dark and narrow places with T-shirts as protection while riot gear is actually available and should be the standard gear since season one. So the family dynamic wasn't that compelling, and the mystery was actually annoying me. This "animal" didn't convince me as civilization ending threat. "After Earth" has a similar predator that drove humans off from Earth. And it is not considered as a good movie. I watched a lot of these TierZoo videos and it is fascinating how predators use many capabilities to be successful; this one is an F tier. If as strong as indicated, it would destroy its livelihood by killing all possible prey, and deers had a harder time than humans, or, and that is imho, the smarter players would use its traits and weaknesses to ban it from all servers, e.g. wipe it off from the face of Earth. PS: Apropos mystery: is it explained from where these creatures hailed? Was it dumped by an alien species? To use the TierZoo metaphor: this animal would only make sense, would survive, as support class - as some sort of hunting animal for players who can undo its weaknesses.

To use the TierZoo metaphor: this animal would only make sense, would survive, as support class - as some sort of hunting animal for players who can undo its weaknesses. In the creatures' defense, I don't think it would be that easy to kill them. They're incredibly strong and agile, and their bodies appear to be nigh indestructible. The only way they've been able to kill them is by getting the creature's head to kind of fan open against its will as it's blasted with feedback overloading its system. Then you shoot it in the brain. It's assumed they come from space since they show up immediately after a giant fireball appears in the sky. It's never revealed exactly what they are or where they come from. I'm willing to suspend my disbelief for the first one because the story itself was so enjoyable, I couldn't do it for this one. There's a group of lowlifes who attack some of the main characters and none of their actions make any sense. In fact, their entire existence makes no sense. These people would be among the first to die in this world. They look like a step away from being zombies themselves and they prey on other people with sound inducing traps-- as they're standing right next to them. That works as well as you might think when the trapped individual deliberately makes a sound. Simply put, the sequel was poorly thought out in all aspects. Krasinski himself says it was never supposed to be a franchise, and it shows.
