The Godfather - AMC right now
Let's give it another shot
Maybe I'm missing something as to why some regard it as a classic and the best mob movie ever
Here we go.....

Is it possible that people hold it close to their hearts because it was before it's time a bit and the originator of the gangster genre - but this off no?
Wasn't there black and white films long ago about gangster movies?
Maybe they didn't involve the inner workers of how a close knit family behaves in the 'the business'? Maybe people are drawn to Pacino's character how he was a squeaky clean kid at first but slowly turned due to his dedication to his family?
I don't know
To each their own we all have different tastes
Off the top my head gangster films I regard better than The Godfather
Goodfellas Miller's Crossing State of Grace Donnie Brasco Hoffa The Departed Gotti (The HBO version with Armand Assante)
I'm not the biggest Bronx Tale or Casino fan; however prefer them to The Godfather
I remember not being in love with The Irishman - but prefer it over The Godfather
Godfather II is on AMC now. I know a lot of people regard better than the original
Let's give this one a shot.....

Good call
I didn't like the character of Kate or was it Kay......
What was even more drawn out and dull though was his romance back in Italy with the chick he married but then got blown up in the car
Movie was just incredibly dull for me
Like watching paint dry
Part II is on now - going to give it a whirl....

i think it's dull b/c aside from al pacino's crazy eyes every once & awhile....mike is pretty much a cipher and reacting to everyone, and everything, not proactive. but oddly, everyone treats him as if he's a great proactive leader. i mean: if you removed pacino from the movie would the plot or narrative change at all?

Maybe I misinterpreted the the whole movie - I thought it was pretty much about Pacino first and foremost and his character arc going from Choir Boy to Darth Vader

The Godfather - AMC right now Let's give it another shot Maybe I'm missing something as to why some regard it as a classic and the best mob movie ever Here we go..... First mistake is watching it, or anything, with commercials. It’s impossible to become properly engrossed with commercial breaks, and with ads scrolling across the screen during the movie itself. I’m not saying it would have changed your opinion, but you’re not giving the movie a fair chance under those circumstances. I wouldn’t watch my favorite movies with commercials. Ever.

One thing the commercials did provide me though was a chance to to take break from all the fast and furious quick heavy hitting action - allowed me to catch my breath a bit and recollect my thoughts with this runaway train of non-stop excitement - what a rollercoaster of a thrill ride.

True. Fast and the Furious is a good point of comparison. Such highly regarded films.

If something I've seen a million times shows up on TV I'll watch it that way.. or at least part of it. But it's not a good way to go from beginning to end.

when mike says, 'my final offer is nothing.' that's his character! nothing.

I watched “Roma” (Alfonso Cuarón, 2018), a movie that won several Oscars including Best Director and Best Foreign Language Film. In spite of the name, it has nothing to do with Italy; the Roma of the title is the name of the neighbourhood in Mexico City where the director grew up. The movie is about an upper middle class family in the early 1970s and especially about their live-in maid.
I thought it was great. Very touching, and beautiful black-and-white cinematography. There is not a whole lot that happens, which made many reviewers on IMDb to rate it a 1 and call it “boring”, but I wasn’t bored at all for the entire runtime of a little over two hours.

I'm not sure it's a film I'm likely to revisit, but it was pretty taken with it. The driest and most insignificant and sometimes cryptic things are treated with the same poetic visual care and importance as the few grand emotional moments. It's a lovely and fascinating film, and I wish I had seen it in a theater. People always say that like action movies and special effects things shot in 3D are the films you need to see on a big screen, and there's some truth to that, but something like this that's so carefully and expansively captured that leaves those images on screen for enough time to fully engage it is just as important to see on the biggest screen. The images are guiding you through and the best way to be fully engrossed would have been on a massive screen.
