I won't be in attendance, but the main feature at my local indie cinema tonight: Deep Red (1975) I haven't seen enough of Argento; I've only seen Suspiria (that's the original, Frogs, don't bring up the remake because it's NOT superior) and Inferno. You enjoyed Suspiria?
WTF was that?
It's been years - and those were my drinking days and I probably had it on in the background but as memory serves it was like an artsy ballet - probably made it like half way through and just left it on after being disinterested in it
"...probably made it like half way through and just left it on after being disinterested in it." That sure sounds like you.

Ever. Own it. Love it.
High re-watch value
Clooney pulls off such a perfect badass
A movie where you're rooting for the characters and become invested in their outcomes - to me that's what makes a great movie
Pretty much why I couldn't get into the latest season of American Horror Story (Macaulay Culkin is in it) - I couldn't care less about any of the characters - horrible character development - sometimes I'm actually rooting for the protagonists to die like in certain slashers
From Dusk Til Dawn 3 (Own that too) is a pretty fun ride that gets bashed - it's prequel
** Edit - I take back what I said about American Horror Story - decided to stick with it and am on Episode 3 (Season 10)

Paris Police 1900 on BBC4.
Have just watched the first episode. Has a Babylon Berlin vibe but not as good (not much is). Watchable stuff so far though. Wish they’d tone down the violence .. don’t watch if you like piglets!

After being finishing Squid Game put me in the mood for some Korean violence I finally caught up with Train to Busan whose star has a small but impactful role on Squid Game. It really is good, but I think it also just benefitted being so much better than the overwhelming glut of shitty zombie movies that preceded it. Some of the emotional beats are very familiar and kind of predictable. It all works, but it's not really anything new. The best thing about it is the setting, which is properly milked for everything it's got to offer... almost. I was quite surprised we didn't get some awesome sequence on the roof of a train as it went in and out of tunnels as we've seen in a whole bunch of other action movies. But the use of the tight quarters and the segregation of the cars is well handled, and the dramatic performances as well as all of the zombie performances are really good. The way the hordes of zombies is so overwhelming that they just pile up on top of each other is pretty intense (and way better than the lousy CGI version of that in World War Z). All in all a good watch. I feel the same way, I really enjoyed Train to Busan. I enjoyed it so much that I watched the sequel called Peninsula, which I talked about somewhere in this thread. Don't watch it. It captures none of what the original does well.

I won't be in attendance, but the main feature at my local indie cinema tonight: Scream (1996) Since Sports Are Now On - What *Aren't You Watching? I remember seeing Scream in theaters way back when with my high school girlfriend. What a blast that was. Sometimes, a rowdy audience can be a good thing (emphasis on sometimes).

Watched Venom: Let there be Carnage - it was fine. About what you'd expect from this type of movie judging by the trailers/commercials.
Over the weekend I watched all of Daniel Craig's Bond's, including No Time to Die in theaters today. Without spoiling, I really liked it. Wasn't Craig's best outing as Bond, but he definitely gave his best performance as 007 in this one, and it was a great send-off to his era.

I've never seen any of Kubrick's films on a big screen, much to my dismay. I saw 2001 in theaters a handful of years ago, I forget which theater in Manhattan was showing it, but it was simply sublime. A quintessential theater-going experience. I also was fortunate to see a screening of A Clockwork Orange years ago when I was living in LA that was hosted by Malcolm McDowell. The movie itself was incredible (obviously), but the Q&A with Malcolm afterwards left a really bad taste in my mouth. Without Kubrick there, McDowell basically just took credit for every great idea in the film and claimed that he stood his ground on a handful of things that he wanted until Kubrick "finally relented." Bull. Shit. Outside of political functions, I'm not sure I've ever witnessed someone spewing such hogwash in person like that.

I saw both 2001 and The Shining on the big screen not more than five years ago. Anyone who says that their big-screen TV is just as good as the real movie experience just doesn't know what they are saying.
