Just started Altered Carbon, Peaky Blinders is next on my list. Wasn't sure I wanted to get into Peaky Blinders because there are already five seasons and I'm not a binge watch kind of guy, but it looks too damn good not to watch. There are 5 seasons of Peaky Blinders so far, but each season is only 6 episodes of an hour each. Each episode feels like a movie. I love the characters, the visuals, the story, I highly recommend. I’ve watched both seasons of Altered Carbon. Season 1 was fantastic, it really stuck in my brain in a good way, so much so that I want to rewatch it. I was a somewhat disappointed in season 2. It didn’t suck but I didn’t think it was nearly as good as season one. Anthony Mackie wasn’t bad in it but I just wasn’t really hooked. Season 1 is essentially a murder mystery with sci-fi elements. Agree with everything here. Loved season 1 of Altered Carbon, season 2 was alright but not on the same level. Two episodes into Peaky Blinders and I'm hooked.

Any recs for some lesser known dark psychological thrillers - with a dark ending - i.e. the bad guy(s) wins out?

Got out of work and went directly to the theater to see it, still wearing a shirt and tie. It only occurred to me halfway through that people probably thought I was wearing a costume for the movie.

You'll float Disappointing. It is my favorite non Dark Tower King book. It could never match my expectations I watched this yesterday and having had a few hours to digest it, I think I affirmatively hated it. The first one was a great blend of earned scares, genuine humor, a heartfelt coming-of-age story against the backdrop of a truly threatening villain that is well established in the first scene. The second one hastily throws the characters back together, then spends a good hour making them each go on individual fetch-quests that result in nothing, aren't scary, don't advance the story, and actually ret-con events of the first film. Plus, I know they had to digitally de-age the kids as most of them had growth spurts, but that, coupled with the ADR to pitch their voices up, was highly distracting. And.....3 hours long? Fuck you. EDIT: Bill Hader was great though. Funny and gave the most endearing performance and his character actually had an arc. James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain and Jay Ryan were completely listless, static characters.

Granted he has more than the average author but still. For every Shawshank and Christine there’s like ten Langoliers.

For every Jurassic Park and Westworld, there are films like Timeline, Disclosure or Rising Sun. The 13th Warrior was a much maligned adaptation, but I love that flick. Sphere is probably my favorite Crichton novel, but the movie is unwatchable.

Just watched one of the weirdest films I’ve ever seen! It’s Japanese and called Visitor Q. Sometimes known as. Chapel Hat Pegs! www.imdb.com/title/tt0290329/referenceFeatures the most dysfunctional familyIve ever seen depicted. If you have a strong stomach you’ll probably get a laugh at one or two scenes. Free to subscribers of MUBI at the moment.

Dead set does the super quick edits when the zombies attack so you can't see anything, every cut is a split second so you can't tell what's going on, I absolutely hate it. Not sure if I can stick with it. It was like taht on Taken. I just watched all three movies and I like the concept but anytime there was an actual fight, the cuts are so quick you literally can't tell what's going on (same with the Bourne movies which I hate). Better Call Saul season 5 is the worst in my opinion, I know I'm in the minority but I'm finding it incredibly boring. Ozark is just keeping my interest enough to go to the next episode but if they ended it, I wouldn't care. No great TV series out now to binge watch, that's for sure. Looking forwad to the next season of Barry which I recommend. Does Better Call Saul get better?
I'm on Season 1 Episode 7 - it's nice to see the ol' Breaking Bad cast back together in a sense - Saul, Mike, Tuco - but have to be honest I'm bored out of my mind.
BCS is much slower than Breaking Bad but it gets better in following seasons but in season 5, which is the current season, i think it's the worst. Far and away the slowest and way too much stuff with teh drug dealers which I couldn't care less about. I think this show is more hype than anything and if it wasn't related to BB would never have lasted more than one season.

I have three movies that I can watch. Nightcrawler (2014), The Beastmaster (1982) and Prisoners (2013). If anyone has seen 1 more more of them then please help out with suggestion on which to watch. Nightcrawler over Prisoners. Never have seen Beastmaster, but, yeah, both of them over it. I watched Nightcrawler last night and thought it was a really good movie. I remember long back when I was about 13 or 14, a TV channel had apparently paid a person to set himself on fire over some corruption issue so that they can cover the incidence. I don't think it was ever proven that the TV channel had paid him but most of the media people in my hometown said that was very likely. There is a really horrible side to how humans desire to see violent/horrible news over normal news. I will see Prisoners this weekend.

King's books do not translate well to the big screen. My favorite, The Dark Tower, was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. But the non-horror stuff does. Stand By Me, Shawshank, The Green Mile. The Shining film was good, but not as good as the book.

What about Misery - book or movie?
I go movie (and I loved the book)
I felt The Shining (movie) was far superior than the book.
Christine I'll go book (but enjoyed the movie as well)

Misery - I can't remember either
The Shining - book 100000000000x better. Just by watching the movie, why does Jack go nuts? He ok one moment, bat chit crazy the next. Sloppy. The book explains it well. The Grady Girls were a nice touch. And an axe is much more scarier than a roque mallet.
Christine - Probably the closest book-movie adaptation. Haven't seen the movie in ages

He's nuts because he's suffering through cabin fever and is an alcoholic.
He's slowly losing it - annoyed beyond belief by the little brat and his annoying wife - that they're the only forms of communication he has - and is craving a drink more and more everyday.

There is, on Netflix, a Korean Adaption of an American hit...and it's better. Ranked 7.9 against 7.6. Designated Survivor-60 days has the Korean Capitol in Seoul reduced to rubble, etc., and a struggle develops between the military hawks and the politicos as to whether to jump to conclusions, blame the North and start a war, with a little "egging on" by the bloodthirsty Yanks. Good tension and a fine performance by the unfortunate "last man standing" is making this binge-worthy for me. Sometimes slow, as political thrillers can be, since the political landscape needs to be explained to the last dot of the small print, our hero, being a non-politico, brings some new thinking to the conversation which has a few thumping the table. But he has enough innocent appeal to win some support and tell those pesky Americans to butt out

Jack didn't "slowly" lose it. His cheese slipped off his cracker in a big hurry. The booze was just a part of it. If you look at his writing desk, you see a large white book. I was a scrapbook that the hotel let him find. Jack became obsessed with it and the history of the Overlook. That how he started to go insane. Then the booze and the power trip. The hotel fooled him into thinking it wanted him and not Danny.

It had some similarities to Blue Ruin, but I like Blue Ruin more. Prisoners has the better viewer ratings and Blue Ruin has the better critics ratings.
