Just watched one of the weirdest films I’ve ever seen! It’s Japanese and called Visitor Q. Sometimes known as. Chapel Hat Pegs! www.imdb.com/title/tt0290329/referenceFeatures the most dysfunctional familyIve ever seen depicted. If you have a strong stomach you’ll probably get a laugh at one or two scenes. Free to subscribers of MUBI at the moment. The director is Takashi Miike, one of the most, if not the most, prolific directors working anywhere in the world. 1999's Audition is probably his most famous movie. Watched a few of his movies of that era. Ichi The Killer, Gozu, and if you want less violence with the weirdness try The Happiness Of The Katakuris.

I watched the Blues win the Stanley Cup last night ( on NHL Network ) The other night I watched the Leafs crush the Blues 8-1 in a game from December 30th, 1967. Great game. Glenn Hall wasn't available for the game due to his father's death and when the starter went down the backup, Don Caley came into his only NHL career game.
This brought to mind if he or his family had ever seen his lone appearance? I mean in the last few decades most everything is on TV, on highlights, can be recorded and is online but would a guy playing his only game in 1967 have ever had the opportunity to see himself play?

Picking a genre for Miike's films, at least of the few I've seen, isn't too easy so I don't know that Katakuris is that much of a musical as it is comedy, drama, horror, etc. While I liked Audition a lot I don't think any of his movies can be considered a classic.

I watched ‘Scarface’ tonight - the Brian de Palma/Oliver Stone/Al Pacino one from 1983, not the original one from the 1930s. I am honestly not sure if I had watched it before or not. I was old enough to watch it when it came out, but I had no memory of it.
In any case, a pretty entertaining couple of hours watching Al Pacino doing his best Al Pacino impersonation. Say Hello to my little friend!

I thought Scarface was a good flick - seems like a lot of fans are fanatical about it - I thought Carlito's Way was the better film (no slight to Scarface) - doesn't get talked about as much as Scarface.

Agreed. Scarface is a bit camp to be honest.

Yes, I saw Carlito's Way when it came out. I don't think I ever rewatched it. I remember liking it a lot, although there was one detail that bugged me so much that I still remember it after all these years. Sean Penn is a lawyer for a big shot Mob guy who's been arrested. The Mob guy knows that Sean Penn has stolen from him. He then comes up with a plan to escape from prison. Who does he ask for help with his plan? Sean Penn. Who had stolen from him, whom he had threatened, and whom he did not trust. The guy was a Mob boss with tons of money and connections and he asks the lawyer who had already screwed him for help?

It's been a few years -
But didn't they ask Penn for help because he had the connections to pull it off - the boat and knowing somebody that knew the waterways to the prison?
I get your line of thinking - it's the mob - they should have other connections to pull it off....
I'll have to give it a watch again soon - own it - buried somewhere in storage.....

The way I remember it, the Mob boss didn't need the lawyer's help with anything other than the boat. He organised the escape himself and just needed somebody with a boat to pick him up. It couldn't have been too difficult to find somebody else who he could trust, but I guess I should just let this one go...

Some of Miike's films are overly violent for my taste, and his sense of humour can be questionable, but I do like his work for the most part, particularly the Black Society trilogy. I own Happiness Of The Katakuris, but haven't watched it.

I'm rewatching Wolf Hall at the moment, the last two episodes are on tonight. If anything, I'm enjoying it even more second time around.

No, I was thinking of buying it just before the lockdown, but hadn't got round to it. I'm sure it will be worth the wait.

I’m watching Lady Vengeance just now.
Pretty strange.
It’s free to stream for Amazon Prime subscribers (and those with MUBI too.).

Now that I finished BoJack Horseman (which was incredible), I'm now turning to seasons 3 and 4 of Mr. Robot. Any fans of that show here?

Watched Melvin Goes to Dinner (2003) tonight. The cameos in it are bizarre for seemingly how small of a movie it was. And Flo is in it . . . and she's really cute.
Watching it made me really want to break quarantine and go to a bar.
