The wife and I finally finished season 4 of This is Us (aside from shows that I watch myself, we agree to watch certain things together. You know how it is, huh fellas?!!) which means I choose the next show. Although there’s a lot on my list (dating back years) I think we may as well go for the final season of Homeland. Admittedly, it’s several years past its prime, but it’s still entertaining and the premise of the final season looks intriguing enough. I wonder if it’ll be anything like another former Showtime series, that ended on season 8... rhymes with Bexter...

Anyone find themselves doing any (post /) apocalyptic viewing this holiday season?
So far I've watched:-
• Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds Live on Stage • Contagion • Outbreak • 12 Monkeys
Hadn't seen Contagion before. Seemed reasonably spot on asides (thankfully) from the looting of stores / breaking into people houses... Although maybe that's still to come (hopefully not!)
Outbreak was simply ridiculous - stupid accident after stupid accident leading to the main characters getting infected.
12 Monkeys. Still a class film despite Brad Pitt being involved. Pondered the "insurance" lady at the end a bit more this time.
What should I watch next?

It's got some of the best CGI out there and some of the scariest monsters I've ever seen

I like that movie a lot. Sure, it goes off the rails at the end but the first 3 quarters of the film are great. I wish they had the balls to do the book ending, but it's still worth a watch.

I literally teared up (and the scene before that when his dog was attacked and the dog was trying to protect him)
Movie lost it's way once he found other humans IMO.

I didn't want to spoil it for anyone who hadn't seen it, but yeah that's where it loses steam. And as many times as they've adapted this story for the screen, I don't think they've ever quite nailed the ending in a way that explains the title. Everything before that is gold. It's an underrated Will Smith performance.

Actually forgot - watched Night of the Living Dead as well! I haven't seen I am Legend. Sadly doesn't look available to me on Netflix at the moment...

I used to get a debate going on the old IMDB Horror Board.
My impression of the film of the film -
Ben was the real villain. He got everybody killed due to his half a$$ed decision making and it was poetic justice what happened to him in the end.
He is dead set about going down to the basement for shelter - but when the chips are down after he gets everybody else killed - what does he do?
He goes down to the basement and waits it out just like Cooper had suggested.
Thoughts?

Ha ha - not sure if he was a villain as such but yes it was pretty funny that if they'd just followed Cooper's plan they would have been ok! Who'd have thought zombies were as much use as Daleks once stairs come in to play! I enjoyed it but not sure about the ending - haven't read much analysis about whether that was supposed to have some racial edge to it or not but I'd liked to have seen Ben make it out but then have to live with the guilt that they all died as a result of following his plan.

I have been meaning to watch “Contagion” again - I saw it when it came out and I remember liking it.

Starting Clint’s “The Eiger Sanction” from 1975. I have a vague recollection of watching bits of it on TV decades ago. Clint is the man. In my next reincarnation I hope I am half as cool as he is.
*** EDIT ***
My God, what a terrible movie that was! Other than great scenery and some pretty cool mountain climbing sequences, it was garbage. Preposterous premise - Clint is a retired international assassin and mountain climber who is now an art professor. He's forced back from retirement from both activities to "sanction" (kill) two enemy spies who eliminated one of his former colleagues. Trouble is, all that is known about one of them is that he is going to be part of a certain climbing expedition and that he limps. So he has to join that climbing expedition in order to identify the enemy and kill him.

I just watched a surprisingly great film last night called Underwater. it's kind of a Abyss meets The Descent. Just starts out right away and never lets up through the whole film. Surprising excellent film.

Nothing little film that is redeemed by the music. It's called YESTERDAY. The story is too silly to relate but it does remind us not only of the quantity of great music that John & Paul produced but also the quality

Waiting for it to be free on Netflix - is on the watch list - the trailer gave me an 'Alien Underwater' vibe.

DEVS Alex Garland who gave us Ex Machina comes up with this terrific sci-fi thriller about a tech-billionaire with a lab full of computer nerds where he claims to know that everything is predetermined and that a correctly programmed computer can/could forecast all futures and resurrect all pasts. He has lost a very young much-loved daughter which explains his motivation. There is a bit of espionage going on which leads to some nasties by a psychopathic security guy (brilliantly played by Zach Grenier) as the girlfriend of a missing techie tries to find out what happened to him. Slow-paced but that is perfect for this story, Great score and although the cast, to me at least, is largely unknown, they totally convince. Very thought-provoking and very watchable. All 8 episodes are available on BBC iPlayer if you fancy binge-watching The nerds have a bit of fun when, on a giant screen used to visualise their efforts, they manage to reconstruct some hazy, blurry images of Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller have a good old shag.

Seems like this crisis is effecting us all.
WWE had a mass firing/layoff.
Superstar below is incredibly emotional and doesn't know how he's going to feed himself and his family!

The whole thing is scripted, how can he not know who wins. Also, it's a bummer but I have much less sympathy for this guy in showbusiness than a person who was already living hand to mouth providing for their family when they lost their job. I'm sure this guy was making more than your average restaurant employee.

I'm not doubting his sincerity, I'm just saying I care less about his problems than people who have it a lot worse.
