I am halfway through the eight episodes of Kaos, a new show that appeared on Netflix. When I saw what the premise was, I just had to start watching, even though I have a list of dozens of other TV shows that I want to get to, including heavyweights such as House of the Dragon S2, Masters of the Air and True Detective. But how could I possibly resist a show where the Greek myths are transposed to present-day society? The Olympus Gods are very real, they meddle, and (practically) everyone worships them. Zeus is Jeff Goldblum and he is tyrannical, paranoid and horny, and he calls Hades on the phone to order him to prepare for a big influx of dead mortals after a group of Trojan refugees insults him.
I am not all that well versed in Greek mythology but I am marvelling at the insanity and the incongruity of it. If the premise sounds interesting, I think it is worth a watch.

I like a good presidential biopic as much as the next jerk, but the new Reagan doesn't seem to be it. In fact, it sounds like a disaster.

It's like the opposite of review bombing.

The only people who would go to see that movie are the people diseased enough to think he was a good president, so of course it's going to have high audience scores.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice was a fucking blast. Won't say much more for now, but I had tons of fun. It was wild and weird and brilliantly nonsensical in a lot of the ways the first one was but still a managed to be surprising. The cast is great and there are hilarious visual gags you'd never expect to see in a PG13 movie. It had a lot to live up to for me, but I had a great time.

I saw it too after watching the original for the first time the previous night. Both were fun - but I have to admit I can't stand Danny Elfman's music. Within a few seconds of the original movie starting, I immediately knew he was the composer.

I thought it was fun. I was a little concerned at the beginning that it was Tim Burton showing how Tim Burton he still was, but I felt like the movie eased into itself after that. The first one was better only because the concepts were fresher, but it was still a good time.

Within a few seconds of the original movie starting, I immediately knew he was the composer. That's hard for me to understand. That original score is such a classic. That trifecta of his first few scores (and Burton's first few movies; Pee Wee, Beetlejuice, Batman) is legendary. He also has a remarkably varied filmography. He's worked in every genre and with a variety of directors and made music you'd never guess was from him. Even just with his work with Burton you've got a array of stuff.

James Earl Jones gone. I’m not a hardcore Star Wars fan but his Darth Vader (and Mufasa) voice is obviously iconic.

In honour of the recently-deceased James Earl Jones I watched Conan the Barbarian (1982) last night. I know I had watched it before but I had very little memory of it – in fact I didn’t even know before reading Mr. Jones’ obituary that he played the villain in it.
It’s a fun movie that is still enjoyable 40+ years later. Adventure, violence, sex, sorcery, there is something for everybody. Arnold hadn’t yet become the fantastic actor we all know and admire for his naturalistic portrayal of the entire range of emotions, so there is that.
As for James Earl Jones, he plays the main villain but he doesn’t have a whole lot of screen time. Still, it was good to see him in addition to hearing him.

Speak No Evil (2024) - a case where strong direction and acting elevated a script that needed a little more development. The twist wasn't especially shocking or even interesting, and the villain's motivation was muddled, but McAvoy was magnetic and the tension was rife throughout.
The Critic (2023) - I'm just glad we still get to see Ian McKellen acting.
