Hey guys, I can't believe it's weekend. I am about to have a chilled Coke and start a movie. It's 11:32 pm local time and just got rid of a disgusting tiring work week. Movies now.... Have a good weekend, and I hope you enjoy whatever movies you are planning on watching. I am thinking of finally watching 12 Angry Men at some point during the weekend.
The great thing about 12 Angry Men is that each and every member of the cast is well chosen and delivers. You won't be disappointed with anyone. I personally still believe that Lee J. Cobb was the best among them all. One of his outbursts had me on edge.

I am halfway through the Man who would be King I am really baffled at some of things although I am still enjoying the movie. Connery and Caine leave India and cross Afghanistan to enter in the land called Kafiristan. The two Brits don't know what religion the people of Kafiristan follow and no white person has won in that land since Alexander the great. But what seems amusing to me is that in Kafristan they meet Saeed jaffrey (who is an Indian Muslim actor) who is playing a Gurkha (a person of Nepalese decent) who was previously in British army. Now the Gurkha is speaking in a strange mixture of Hindi-Urdu (with some old Sanskrit words thrown in the mix and one or two Persian words too) to the people of Kafiristan and those people are able to understand the Gurkha. But they themselves reply in what seems like a language I cannot understand. Although I am able to understand everything spoken by the Gurkha.

So I’ve watched 12 Angry Men, and I loved it! Unbelievable how tense it could be, even though practically the entire movie takes place in a single room and the characters do little else than talk the whole time. Masterful writing and directing! I’ve also watched It Always Rains on Sunday (1947) , a British noir I had never heard about before. I borrowed the Blu-Ray from the library on a whim, and it turned out to be pretty good. It’s a series of interconnected stories in a poor neighbourhood of London. There’s a fugitive who goes to his ex-girlfriend’s house for help in hiding from the police, even though she is now married and has a step-family. There’s her grown-up stepdaughters with complications of their own. There’s a group of criminals trying to unload the worthless loot that they stole the night before, and a bunch of other characters and stories. Highly entertaining.

I watched this one for the first time not long ago, and wasn't very impressed with it. I thought it was too silly to be taken seriously, and not nearly funny enough to work as a comedy.
If I am not mistaken, the scenes in "Kafiristan" were shot somewhere in North Africa (possibly Morocco), with local actors except for the Gurkha. So they would be speaking Arabic or Berber or a different local language.

I watched Slaxx last night, a new Canadian horror/comedy. I am not a big fan of horror movies, but how could I NOT watch a movie about a sentient, murderous pair of jeans?

Yep, doing exactly that. Couldn't resist as I smell an interesting finish. You tell me which picture I see after the Eng-Aus? I have three options. A) The Man Who Would Be King (1975) with Sir Michael Caine and Sean Connery. B) Tokyo Story (1953) Yasujiro Ozu C) Pale Rider (1985) with Clint Eastwood. Three good movies. I pick Tokyo Story. Quietly moving. Hey Fong, have you heard of Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency TV series? If good then I can try. Last Friday I was so exhausted that I didn't even had strength to see many movies. This week I decided not repeat that mistake. I asked for leave. It's better to take all casual and earned leaves. So I am going to make it a 4 day work week and my weekend has already started! Thinking about watching Willow (1988). That said my subscription to Hotstar+Disney provides me access to Disney movies so I can watch famous movies like Lion King that I have not seen so far.

I haven't seen any of the US TV version of Dirk Gently. I did watch a bit of the UK one starring Stephen Mangan. It was OKish. I think it only lasted a few episodes before it got cancelled. Enjoy Willow!

So for tonight I have decided to go with "Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977)". I have never tried Star Wars movies before and I have no idea what to find in them. Let's see if I can like or not.

I'm pretty sure you'll like the first one. Empire Strikes Back is even better imo.

I'm in full Halloween mode Halloween 4 - gritty unrated movie (as was 5) - with the return of Michael Myers Haven't gotten there yet, but hope to start some Halloween viewing this week. Halloween 4 is yearly viewing for me too. Solid generic slasher with good fall atmosphere, but I don't know that I could call it 'gritty' though. I'll assume you meant 'underrated' and I agree. Fans seem to hate it for some reason, but for a low rent Halloween knock off, it's definitely one of the better made ones, within the franchise or not.

So did you watch the first Star Wars after all? If so, what did you think? Are you going to watch the following ones? Unless you hated the first one, you should watch at least the rest of the first trilogy, meaning "The Empire Strikes Back" and then "The Return of the Jedi". "The Return of the Jedi" has some elements that are a bit childish and were probably put in there in order to appeal to a younger audience and to sell toys, but it's still worth watching.

Yes, I have seen the first two parts. Now I need to see "The Return of the Jedi". Once I have seen all 3, I will let you know my feelings as a whole and why I had not seen the movie when I was presented with 2 chances before around 2008 and 2013.

Just one quick question: did you know about the big surprise BEFORE you watched "The Empire Strikes Back"? At the time it was probably THE biggest plot twist in movie history, but it's one of those things that is now part of popular culture, so I was wondering if it caught you by surprise or if you knew about it already.

The Chant of Jimmy Blacksmith
Excellent Aussie film. Brilliant cinematography and the performance by the lead actor is great.

Had absolutely no idea. I am assuming by big surprise you are talking about the relationship revealed at the end of part 2 between Darth Vader and Skywalker. I has no idea it and was shocked. If that is what you mean by the big surprise. I had never heard of any characters from the movie except Darth and someone called Ackbar. Darth I know from countless memes posted in name of that character and Ackbar because of the many users who go by that name on this forum ( President Ackbar™ for example). I still have not come across Ackbar character. I had no idea about general or even any specific plot regarding any part. This movie unlike LOTR is not very widely known in India and so never got a clue of its story.

Yes, that's the big surprise I was referring to. There have been so many references to that scene in other movies and on TV in the past decades that I thought you might have known about it already even without having seen the movie itself. I am happy for you that you managed to avoid the spoiler.
Ackbar is a very minor character who appears in the third movie if I remember correctly. I am not sure why one or more users here chose that username.
