The Carpetbaggers (1964)
Great soapy drama based on Harold Robbins’ pulp novel with George Peppard as a tyrannical business magnate who treats everyone around him like dirt.
Very enjoyable.
And Caroll Baker looked very sexy. Martha Hyer too.
Alan Ladd’s last film.
Quite long.

I love history and I love theater but I HATE musical theater. That and country music are probably the two things on this earth that I truly hate with vehement passion. It's irrational, I have no basis for it, but it sends me into such a blind rage that it's best for me to avoid it altogether. Does that include musicals as well? Because I get into a blind rage with musicals as well as musical theater (which are close enough to one another). I want to kick the shit out of people when I hear Singing in the Rain too. Musicals bother me less than musical theater, but the ones I can tolerate are few and far between. Nightmare Before Christmas (saw this on acid once, sweet merciful christ) and La La Land I really like, but I'm struggling to think of other ones I can sit through. Any of those Fred Astaire movies can fuck right off. |

I just googled it and it says it debuted in the 60s
But this episode - it kind of had an 80s feel to it - I don't know - before my time.
Trebek came on prior to it's airing it was the first Jeopardy. Maybe the first episode aired in prime time?
Didn't seem like the winnings were as big back then.....

The Godfather is on IFC right now. Just started.
I never understood the over the top love. Found it incredibly dull and boring.
Maybe I wasn't giving it an honest viewing.
Going to try again.

I've heard people talk about G2 about how it's the only movie (used to be) with DeNiro and Pacino! But did they share any screen time at all?
To me - if you're a fan of DeNiro and Pacino and want to see them together - Heat is the movie.
IMO Goodfellas and Heat are far superior to any Godfather movie - but that's just me.
I'd even rank The Irishman over The Godfather flicks - and I was kind of lukewarm on that movie - enjoyed it until the last half hour which was torturous in it's own right.

DeNiro plays a young Vito Corleone, so they don't have any scenes together. Heat is incredible. Heat is also kind of a slow burn, surprised you like that and not the GF. It feels like a 10 episode Netflix show compressed into a film, but it still works. Goodfellas is a different kind of film with a different perspective on organized crime compared to Godfather. Goodfellas is also fantastic, and I'd say more rewatchable than the Godfather, even if I wouldn't call it 'better.' I never got around to The Irishman, not sure I ever will. |

Not to open a can of worms - but I'm anti-gun and believe in stricter rules for gun control. I'll protect my home and loved ones with Mr. A and Mr. B - that's my left and right hand folks Anywho - now that that's out of the way - Dateline: Secrets Uncovered: Deadly Exchange 'A foreign exchange student and soccer player's participation in a dangerous game leads to deadly consequences' Pretty much this kid went around robbing homes and a homeowner shot him to death. |

There is no way, in 1,000 lifetimes, that she'd be into him after that initial 30 second encounter. |
