I think back to Prometheus and trailer and how good that was. I was soooooooooo excited for that movie, but ended up disliking a lot for a variety of reasons. The trailer for this came out and I didn't think it looked bad,, but I wasn't excited about it. Then some of the images started to get released – the poster in particularly – and I started to get excited. These pictures from Empire Magazine both excite and worry me. Not unlike Prometheus, they are nice to look at. There's a lot of stuff here that is pleasing to the eyes. But also like Prometheus, there looks to be a lot going on. Another kind of xenomorph (the white one)?! We already have the original version with the exoskeleton. In Prometheus, we got the Deacon. Now this neomorph? And judging by the pictures there is another humanoid race too. Why so many different type of creatures.....again?

You can feel both, but my reaction has been to go back and forth. I'm not choosing to react that way, it's just the way I have reacted. A couple of channels have been showing parts one through four and it just reminded me how much I enjoy the series. I was really excited for Prometheus, but really didn't like it at all, so I'm trying not to get my hopes up again even though I think this movie looks like it could be good.

I don't understand what everyone hates about Prometheus. I didn't go into it expected another Alien film. I love that Ridley chose not to use the Alien name since it's really about so many other great sci-fi elements. I went to it expecting a relatively new experience inside the Alien universe and that's what I got. Granted, I love the xenomorph and it is the quintessential alien monster. But if they reuse that creature in the same way, over and over, it's bound to get boring. In fact, the Alien VS Predator sh!t was really doing a number on the Alien legacy... and Predator legacy for that matter.
On a personal note, I don't know why Ridley refuses to explore this element of the xeno further. But I want to see a movie exploring alien behavior and how much of its host's personality it take on. That concept seems right up Ridley Scott's alley.

Anyway, aside from another shabby-looking CGI alien (they can not properly capture horror elements with a computer), I can't wait to see Alien: Covenant.

The latest commercials make it look like a cheap tasteless slasher horror flick. There's even Blair Witch style camcorder interviews with the characters. Prometheus was utter garbage but this looks worse. I don't know what happened to the Ridley that made the original.

Hopefully when you do catch the flick you'll be pleasantly surprised instead of pissed and out $12.

It's one of my biggest frustrations with the Alien franchise that a lot of the time they don't seem to think the original creature was good enough. Adding the Queen was a sensible extension, I thought - the question of where the eggs come from makes sense, and the answer makes sense. But after that... not so much.

I can agree with that, but I think it mostly applies to part four, Prometheus, and the new movie. Alien 3's creature did not bother me, because like you with Aliens I thought part three was a natural extension. It simply took on the traits of its host, but it was still the same species. The deacon and neomorph are different and I don't understand why.

You don't understand why, kuato? You didn't try to give Prometheus a chance did you? The fact that the black goo in those jars can create genetic mutations opens up all kinds of possibilities. I think the Engineers didn't know how to manage that substance and it ran amok. It was like The Thing mixed with the black cancer from The X-Files and it just killed them all. BUT I don't know for sure. It's a theory and that's what I love about good science-fiction. It can open up the imagination. Hopefully, Alien Covenant will answer all of the questions that Prometheus posed.
