I just read an article about how some fans want Poe and Finn from Star Wars to have a romantic relationship. Apparently they want the gay community to be represented in a SW film. Kathleen Kennedy replied basically saying "Oh, the fans have many ideas indeed."
And then I saw a cast photo from the new Han Solo movie, and many people were outraged that there was only one black guy and everyone else was white. They want every race to be represented in a SW film.
All of this reminds me of the Ghostbusters fiasco last year (which presumably killed the IMDb boards) where many people were vocal online about how you were a sexist pig if you disliked a movie featuring female action leads, regardless of the quality of the actual movie.
Is this a new trend or something? The Internet's been around for about two decades now, but I don't remember ten years ago, for example, people making a big deal about diversity (or forced diversity).
Don't we all just want good movies? What's this whole thing about wanting to be represented onscreen?

yes, it's fairly new. it's mostly retarded. film has been breaking the trends these people bitch about for decades. they act like they are dealing with 1950s Hollywood.

I don´t like it when a movie or series are excuses for diversity.
Just off the top of my head, I find Jessie (the series) like it was created for the sole reason of diversity. It´s not a bad purpose to teach the kids about it, but it feels forced, (not every family in the world is Brangelina´s). But well... Disney...
Lethal Weapon is the kind of movie where the different-race leads have great chemistry, is very well done, all you think when you watch it, is : "What a heck of a movie is this!"
I just wan´t good/great movies.

Movies should be about the stories and characters and acting and everything else that makes the story itself. Period. If that so happens to be a diverse cast, so be it. If it happens to be an all white cast - or all Asian cast - so be it. Anyone who cries about "oh but so-and-so group of people aren't represented here!" understands and cares nothing about art. And it's a tragedy that voices and influences like that are spreading, like a cancer.

Honestly, I don't remember all the uproar for or against diversity being this bad even five years ago. Then again, I was on IMDb only since 2014.

Im ok for diversity as long it really serves the story or its well done. Im a woman but hate the idea of making James Bond a woman just for the sake of diversity but if someone created a great franchise with a great female character then great.
Another thing it's bad for everyone when they make a big deal out a small inclusion, like for example leFou in the new beauty and the beast, it's ok he was gay but you could barley notice it. Its silly Disney made such a big Announcement about it when it was something it was almost impossible to see and it cost them censorship in some countries
If they wouldn't have said it, those countries would have said nothing and the film would still have been a huge hit.
