Bret Broffman Jr. was a 27 year old man from Louisville, Kentucky. I don’t know him personally, but I have a ton of mutual friends who knew him well. According to them, he was a kind person who would take the coat off of his back for a stranger. He was always smiling, in a good mood, and made sure the people around him were happy. He always saw the good in people.
Bret was last seen at a music festival in Cincinnati, Ohio in the first week of June. From there, he was headed to the Bowling Green/Glasgow are of Kentucky on his way to Bonnaroo, but never made it to his destination. On June 7th 2017, his vehicle was found that day on Veterans Outer Loop near Franks Mill Road in Glasgow, Kentucky. Bret was nowhere to be found. The area his car was found was searched, but police said thick weeds made it difficult to find anything.
A year later, in April 2018, an LMPD helicopter spotted some clothing and a femur bone in a ravine a few hundred yards from where the vehicle was originally found. Over a year after the remains were found, the medical examiner officially identified the remains as those of Broffman’s after the DNA made a positive match.
In May 2019, his case became a criminal investigation, but no charges have been made.
Who killed Bret Broffman?
Personally, I think this is a case of picking up the wrong hitch hiker. No information has been given to the public as far as any evidence being found. I’m a long-time lurker here, but have never made a post, so I apologize if that’s obvious in any way. I just think the best way to bring this man justice is by getting his name out. Someone knows something. Someone has the ability to bring his family closure. Maybe they just don’t know it yet.

Edit: I forgot to mention that his case didn’t get much coverage outside of Kentucky and Tennessee. People from all over go to music festivals, especially one as big as Bonnaroo. The last time I went, my camping neighbor was from Alaska. With that said, I think the chances of his killer being from another state is pretty likely. Maybe a passerby from another state on their way to Bonnaroo saw something that could help the case. This is why I’m really hoping I can get as many people to see this as possible.
