So I'm not a believer in UFOs as alien spaceships, but I am a sucker for movies along those lines. Of course, the God Emperor of UFO movies is Close Encounters of the Third Kind, but I have a soft spot for the smaller, cheaper, lesser known ones too. Some of my favourites are...
The Fourth Kind
How can you not love a movie that one ups the title of the God Emperor of UFO movies? I like the way this depicts itself as "real events" (it isn't), the mixing in of "recreations" and "real footage" is quite creepily effective, IMO.
Fire in the Sky
Allegedly based on a true event. Worth watching for the "what happened to him" scenes, which are pretty gross and disturbing.
Dark Skies :
Here we have an interesting idea, which is what if the aliens came after you... and just kept coming back, over and over and over again? It's not a hugely inventive or original movie, but I find it effectively creepy.
And there is the upcoming Phoenix Lights movie, which looks pretty cool. I like that they're using a real (although thoroughly debunked) UFO case as the inspiration...
