A DOG who has spent more than ten years in a rescue centre has found a home.
Bess, a black and white border collie, was given up by her owners after she was hit by a car.
Her neck was badly injured and she struggled to bond with the staff while being wary around other dogs.
As the years went by, she became the longest canine resident at the Last Chance Animal Rescue in Edenbridge, Kent.
But staff issued a public appeal for a caring owner to take Bess — and were inundated with offers from all over the world.
After several visits, Bess got to know potential owners from the South Coast — and is settling in to her new home.
Centre manager Jenny Mansfield, 37, said: “She was living on a farm but ran away and was hit by a car.
“She had pins in her neck and has always been sensitive about being touched around her neck."
“She is friendly with people that she knows but it even took the staff a long time to build her trust.
“Because of her injury she was wary around other dogs. We had to do five or six introductions with her new owners before she felt comfortable."
A spokesperson for the centre said: “It was very emotional for everyone as she set off to her new life but also very rewarding, as a loving home is what we want for all our dogs.”
