Oscars likely canceled.... why is that? because if not enough gets seen then theres nothing they can do, it applies to netflix as well. plenty of their films still are filming.

All they have to do is screen the movies for a week in the required area. It doesn't matter If no one goes to see them.

I've read speculation that eligibility rules may be altered for this year, allowing films to debut on streaming rather than spend a week in an LA cinema. Nothing definite has been announced yet, though.
Certainly most of those films currently in pre-production or early stages of shooting are unlikely to see the light of day in 2020.

Oscars likely canceled.... Zero chance. I bet the Academy would feel heroic somehow going on with it. Also, money, lots of money. Srsly though, the fall/festival season should be alright. Anything released after Labour Day likely won't face chaos.

Most Oscar-nominated films are released by autumn and I expect the coronavirus cases to have declined by then. We should be good.

I'd be more concerned about 2022. Most movies should be in the can already for the next while, on hold.
It's the blacked out production window we're now in that should be of concern. The echo of no work being done will catch up.
Besides, there'll likely be screeners sent out to voters... & advance released for home consumption nearly the same time. Ppl will still have access. Movies that aren't even fully relying on B.O. like Parasite.

It took a global pandemic for them to finally combine the sound categories into one?!
