Angels in America 5. Scarecrow I have an issue with certain aspects of his performance in Heat, but overall he is very good in it. His OTT moments at parts are a bit cringe-inducing here. "Killed walkin' your doggy" is the part that bothers me the most, though that has more to do with the line itself than his delivery. Yeah, if you are unaware of the original idea that he is a drug addict and just look at it like it as intimidation techniques it is still a bit much imo. "Great ass" is one of the most OTT moments of his entire career and it is an irritating moment. If he wasn't an actor known for for his yelling at that point in his career then I might feel differently about it.

I've always read his performance as a drug addled cop who fell into drugs as a means of dealing with his demons catching up to and shrouding his whole existence. A man who utlizes this facade or mask he wears as a way to deal with his whole existence, which gets shattered by Neil at the films conclusion.

very underrated work in Manglehorn, Paterno, and the hubling, the latter of which serves as a parallel to Pacinos real life.

Yeah, except the movie never even mentions he uses drugs as far as I remember. That was something in the script that Mann didn't film. The facade you are talking about is there without the need for the OTT moments anyway. We see it in the writing and the rest of his performance without drugs to even need to be mentioned or hinted at. That is just how I see it.

Lots to choose from...... The Godfather II Dog Day Afternoon Scarface Scent of a Woman The Insider Curious whose you're best actor pick from 1999? I can't decide between Spacey and Crowe, I've also heard others prefer Denzel and Farnsworth ultimately.

Yeah, that stuff is great. I am just talking about the very OTT moments that feel drastically out of place in Heat. Those moments don't add anything imo, they just come off as distracting and forced to me.
