Just a heads up that this neglected treat has just had an R2 DVD/Bluray release on the Network label - first time on dvd I think: Carroll Baker trapped on a desert oil rig with five sweaty, horny guys is the "plot". Just the thing for a distraction from a global health crisis. It doesn't have too many fans ( A Maltin "1/2 and dismissed as a "cheap melodrama" by The Sunday times.) But TIME OUT waxes lyrical: "On an isolated oil pipeline station in the desert, five men bicker and squabble in appalling heat and boredom, Then the incredible happens: a large American car crashes in their midst, one of its two occupants a beautiful blonde siren (Carroll Baker). Her presence drives the men crazy with lust for her; and with increasing antagonism towards each other. From a script by Bryan Forbes and Brian Clemens, the underrated Seth Holt directs with a tight grip, and clearly delights in such moments as the frisson created by Baker's bra strap falling casually from her shoulder. It's an unexpected Black sheep of British cinema.not least for its unrepressed sense of anger and strident eroticism". Enjoy... I certainly did

Leonard Maltin dislikes a lot of movies he considers cheap, immoral or vulgar. I think this is Timshelboy's favourite film.

To each his own.... for me "cheap, immoral and vulgar " are three strong reasons to watch... and this one ticks all three boxes! I believe Timshelboy's favourite Carroll Baker movie is SYLVIA, although THE BIG COUNTRY, THE CARPETBAGGERS and ORGASMO/PARANOIA, as well as this offering, are all very high in his affections.SWEET BODY OF DEBORAH is a guilty pleasure too. Here's a peek at STATION SIX-SAHARA and here's the hit theme tune!

I just remember he loves this movie. 'Sylvia' was filmed in Carroll Baker's home state, Pennsylvania. 'Harlow', 'The Carpetbaggers' as you mention.

There's one Carrol Baker movie where she gets a note from someone that says "welcome home, you tramp."
In a similar vein to the Samuel Jackson thread, there are probably a few actresses who might be inclined to go to Europe for leading roles if the opportunities existed. Baker was active at a time when an American could go there to get leading roles which Hollywood would never have given them.
Though I don't consider her in the same league as Baker, Sharon Stone most likely could have got leading roles if a European film industry that existed in the 60s-70s was still around. I know there are still European films made that employ American actors but they don't get on the radar much.
