I mean I re-watched it a couple years ago for the first time in 20 years. I have been known to hate a movie one day and think it was okay the next time I watched it. It Follows for example. I was basically just bored by every single aspect of Part II last time I watched it. Heck, being scary or funny sometimes doesn't even make a difference. I think Wolf Creek is scary but it is so been there done that imo. Watching some sadist torture and torment people for 2 hours is just a downer.

Slashers maybe, but hockey masked villains were done in Road Warrior so originality-wise it doesn't make a ton of difference for me.

That is a good point, but slasher-wise it makes a lot of difference to me. Jason is just such a boring slasher imo, but the hockey mask adds a humor to his presence that make it more fun. You are talking to someone who generally has a bias against these types of slasher movies though. Halloween, Black Christmas, A Nightmare on Elm Street and Scream. That is pretty much where my like ends. There might be a few I am forgetting. F13, 3, 4 and 7 are mildly fun. The rest suck imo.

Well, that's the thing - dude IS boring, but Part 2 is one of the few that attempted to give him character and separate him from other Slashers, particularly when Ginny psychoanalyzes him. Ultimately in this movie he's a woods hick survivalist and very human, and the cheap potato sack adds to that for me.

He is just as uninteresting here as he is in most of the other movies imo. The ending with the shrine to his mother is laughable to me. Am I suppose to think that is scary or take it seriously on any level? Where has Jason been for the last 18 years or whatever? Was he just hanging around for all that time and just happened to come by his mother's head one day? Is he a zombie in the second movie or only in the sequels? It's just all too silly and disconnected to me. It may have helped if any of the kills or stalking scenes were actually creepy or felt like reality. they don't. A Nightmare on Elm Street has a fantastical story, but the kills are scary and disturbing and you understand Freddy's motives. The fact that Jason is some mentally challenged person makes it way less effective. These movies all lack suspense or a curiosity of what will happen next. Don't even get me started on how dull I find most of the protagonists in this franchise. Sure, the main female in Part 2 is more resourceful and smarter than the usual, but I still don't care about her survival because I don't care for anything else about her character. In the better slasher movies they have likable characters that I want to see win against the villain that are dealing with situations in a realistic feeling and dramatically effective way.

Initially he survived the drowning and had been living in the woods, reemerging after his mother's decapitation and not officially becoming a zombie until 6*. It's pretty nonsensical, but hey, that's why I said I have trouble rating these movies. On an objective level, that's the most bullshit retcon excuse for a sequel in film history and raises several questions. But I enjoy the movie for what it is, mommy head shrine included. *Some of the later, later sequels (notably 8) seem to imply he actually did die as a kid, so I guess now it's ambiguous? The continuity is a dumpster fire.
