The Book of The Unnamed Midwife by Meg Ellison, followed by two sequels. All available on Amazon Kindle Unlimited. A fever has wiped out most of the earth's population, particularly women and children but there a still a few survivor in isolated pockets of the country. All three books were excellent reads but must be read as a trilogy to keep up with the characters and changes in time.

I was going to add 'Blindness' by José Saramago as an honorable mention, but I see that it's already included on the list. Even though the book was a ceaseless wave of misery for the characters, I liked that one a lot.
I'll show myself out....
