Yes
not sure
Characters -
1 Richard Attenborough ... Bartlett 'Big X' 2 Donald Pleasence ... Blythe 'The Forger' 3 Charles Bronson ... Danny 'Tunnel King' 4 James Garner ... Hendley 'The Scrounger' 5 Hannes Messemer ... Von Luger 'The Kommandant'
As much as I love McQueen, Hilts is the least interesting of the main characters.

1. A marginal "No". I found it dull, and couldn't get into it.
2. No really good scene. I'd say the best scene is when Coburn is called to the phone and thinks he is caught.
3. If I had to pick a favorite character, it would be the one played by James Coburn

Yes
Probably the scene where Hendley puts out the stuff on the table to entice Werner but I like all the Hendley-Blythe scenes best.
Hendley Blythe
"And that, I'm sure you'll all remember, is the voice of the Nelles warbler Let's turn our attention to this gentleman -the masked shrike. Lanius nubicus. The butcherbird. The shrike impales his foes on the spikes of thorn bushes. Not a very lovable character, you see. Let's have a look at the colouring. Uniform black above, from head to tail. A black rump, a black crown with a bold white flash, and a white line over the eye. The shrike lives in lightly wooded country...Ah. Hendley. Sit down. You'll find drawing materials on the table."

1) Big 'Yes'
2) Coburn in the Parisian cafe -- wondering who is phoning him.
3) Pleasence as 'The Forger'

1. Yes.
2. The commandant's pained allusion to a massacre of escapees. Incidentally, the actor playing the commandant, Hans Messemer, was taken prisoner at Stalingrad but managed to escape. Alternately, the final scene of Hilts back in the cooler tossing the baseball about. The guard walks away but looks back, as though thinking "We'll never beat these Yanks!"
3. McQueen's character or Garner's.

1. Do you Like the 1963 Movie "THE GREAT ESCAPE".....Yes or No ?
Yes, although I'm not sure how much it holds up. This Nazi prison camp is about as bad as the boyscouts. I understand not everything was Auschwitz, but come on now. And the music didn't help.
2. What is your Number 1 Favorite Scene from it ?
Probably the scene where Bartlett and co get caught.
3. Who is your Favorite Character in it ?
Blythe because Donald Pleasance.
