Why in the fuck would Gen Z-ers stack their dirty dishes? It seems rather disgusting to me, as you would get nasty food goop allover the bottom of the other dishes. I feel sorry for the busboy who has to sort through that crap! It makes it easier for the server to clear the table. They have to stack it like that anyway to bring it back to dish. Harder for the dishwashers though....

Neither of you have worked in restaurants, have you. Here's what happens. The server clears the table to make room for the next one. The faster they can do that, the faster they can seat more customers-- meaning they carry dishes back to the kitchen in stacks as large as possible. They then clear the napkins, leftover food, cream packets, etc. and drop it in the trash while parsing out the silverware. Then they drop it in the dish tank where the dishwasher takes over. His or her job doesn't change at all-- a dirty plate is a dirty plate. If a customer separates their trash, silverware, and stacks the plates, it makes their job much easier. Less sorting, less work, more turnover, good for everybody.

It makes it easier for the server to clear the table. They have to stack it like that anyway to bring it back to dish. Well, that makes sense. I still don't understand why the customer would do that though. It's the waiter's and busboy's job. I wouldn't interfere. I also don't think most Gen Z-ers do that either. Lol. I've been to lunch with plenty of people of all ages and I've never seen anyone stack the dishes for the busboy like that. It's considerate. That's all.

My wife does it all the time. Then again, she was a server. I don't think it's a generational difference. It isn't.
