The major flaw in the movie to me was always the sort of deus ex machina ending. It's barely, and sort of lazily, set up that they've encountered a kindly older couple who never had a child but wanted one, so now this kid has somewhere to go. It would have worked so much better for me if his fate was left uncertain at the end. It was a cheap semi-happy ending that wasn't earned. Still a hihg quality film, but that really detracts from the story to me. Also, the Toy Story movies are objectively not stupid. They're more emotionally mature and intellectually engaging than much of this list. Just because they're 'for kids' doesn't make them mindless. That would be like saying Road to Perdition is dumb because it's a 'comic book movie.' Most people don't know Road To Perdition was based on a graphic novel (with a different ending), so there's no comparison with an animated film clearly aimed at children. As far as being more intellectually engaging than much of his filmography, that's a matter of personal taste. The old couple are irrelevant to the ending for me. The 'happy ending' was the son had a chance to bond with his father, and see there was more to him than what he or other people thought based on his reputation. The point was that his father didn't live to see him become the murderer he was. The old couple were just there to put a bow on the theme that Michael Jr. would have a life different from his father, which is what Michael Sr. says is his motivation a few different times during the film. Fine... forget the comparison. It's still close minded and incorrect to discount those movies. Obviously everything is personal taste, but fucking Dragnet is better than all of the Toy Story movies? I enjoy a dumb comedy as much as the next guy, but it's way inferior. I realize that it 'puts a bow' on that theme, but it's lazy and unearned. It's irrelevant except that it's there. If it's not relevant it shouldn't be included, and if that part of the story was excised the film would be better for it. The kid standing on the beach with the voice over and the sound of the waves crashing continuing from the scene woth Hanks and Jude Law dying would have been perfect.

He was an anti-hero in Road To Perdition. He played a reluctant villain; he worked for a mobster because he needed work, not because he liked it. He wasn't a cruel man, like Rooney's son was. The final line in the film says it all, "When people ask me if Michael Sullivan was a good man, or if there was just no good in him at all, I always give the same answer. I just tell them, he was my father." In other words, if the son is a good man, perhaps you should judge the father as the man who raised him. Comparing him to Devils Rejects characters is about as far off base as you can get. Easily my favorite Hanks movie, it's in my all-time top five films, period. It's laughable that his performance is ranked so low on this list while his voice work for stupid kids movies is ranked second. I easily would've thrown four or five films off this list in favor of Joe vs. The Volcano. Not really.
He killed people.
As I was replying to your post I thought, "Frogs is going to see that I like this movie and say something crazy to try to get me riled up. His 'Colin Cowherd of IMDb' mentality will kick in and he'll try to stir the pot. Keep being you, frogs. This place wouldn't be the same without you. (And I'm being sincere. Your personality adds something fun to the board. I'm just not going to bite.)

He was a bad guy.

I liked Dragnet, it's dumb fun. For whatever reason I don't usually get into Pixar movies. They're not terrible, but me calling them stupid was just my opinion on the concept of talking toys I guess, not the quality of the film itself. They're fine, they're just not for me. And I do think Michael Jr. staring at the lake would've been just as powerful with the same narration. I guess they just wanted to reassure the audience the boy had a good life? I didn't need it, but it doesn't bother me. The question I've always had? If the entire story is told in flashback by what must be an adult Michael Jr, why is he still talking in the kid's voice?

No, not really. We can, however, as a movie going public.

"It don't take much strength to pull a trigger" Do you know what movie this lil baby was from folks? A Bronx Tale when Lorenzo is trying to show/teach his son who the real man is - the working man - not some evil thug like Michael Sullivan (Tom Hanks) who kills people

I watched Dragnet somewhat recently, maybe 2 years ago at this point? Tom Hanks is disposably fine in it, but Dan Aykroyd kills it. I just can't help myself, I crack up every time he says anything. Props to Jack O'Halloran in a great supporting role and one of my personal faves, Christopher Plummer as the main villain. EDIT:

Too bad the guy in that movie killed someone in real life. Wasted talent. Michael Sullivan Sr. didn't waste his talent for killing people. See, we've come full circle!

1. Philadelphia 2. Saving Ryan's Privates 3. A League of Their Own 4. Apollo 13 5. Toy Stories 6. Catch Me If You Can (underrated) 7. Wonderful Day in the Neighborhood 8. Bridge of Spies 9. Road to Perdition
I didn't care for Cast Away at all. And Forrest Gump. While I thought Hanks was good, I hate the movie. Interesting premise that wore thin in 30 minutes.

Felt the ending was rather gut wrenching - I mean - we've all lost loved ones - was a tough first watch - beautiful film.

If the movie was called, say, Minneapolis, would you like it as much?

There's a scene toward the end where he's listening to the opera. You can see the joy on his face and the anguish. He's thinking "I'm not going to hear this much anymore." Hanks won the Oscar with that scene alone. Fucking powerful

If the movie was called, say, Minneapolis, would you like it as much? The theme song wouldn't be as good. "At night I could hear the blood in my veins. Just as black and whispering in my veins. On the Streets on Minneapolis."
Damned good song

It's one of my favorite Springsteen songs.
He also has another gut wrencher I enjoy at the end of The Wrestler - just as the credits roll and we can all assume Ram passed away in the ring -

His Oscar signature nominated films like Forest Gump, Saving Private Ryan, Philadelphia, Big, and Cast Away ranked lower than expected.
Where is Bachelor Party? I like that one a lot.
Saving Mr Banks & The Terminal were not that good movies. Neither were the Da Vinci Code movie.
I can understand that The Da Vinci & Angels & Demons grouped together. Weird that they put Sleepless in Seattle & You’ve Got Mail together. They are totally different movies. If they want to group them because of Meg Ryan, they should have includee Joe Versus the Volcano, which is another movie I like a lot
I agree with other the Toy Story movies shouldn't be in the list. If they include animation, they could have included Polar Express.
