They don't take religion seriously. They just look at it as a book of fairy tales for adults. Just look at the Atheist Experience, or DarkMatter2525. Atheist Experience is just a show where believers call in most of which don't know what they are talking about. As my mom said once, "Can you turn that down they sound mentally retarded." Then the hosts would say, "What's your evidence for this? This doesn't prove anything. Can you shut up already!" As for DarkMatter2525 his cartoons are getting very unfunny and embarrassing to watch.
And since the atheists don't take the Bible seriously they can't see the agenda that's being pushed. You need to study the Bible like you would perform an autopsy on a corpse.

That doesn't really surprise me, at least in regards to American atheists. A lot of American atheists are quite familiar with the Bible because they often came from religious households and religion plays a huge factor in society/politics (which is why they often become atheists in the first place). I get the feeling atheists in Europe (especially the Nordic region) aren't as familiar with the Bible as American atheists because Christianity is no where near as influential so they're not as concerned about it. I'd have to look at polling data though.

I'd have to look at polling data though. Being "plainspoken" is ordinarily a virtue. Everyone, including children, knows exactly what you mean. However being plainspoken can be taken to a fault regarding scriptures. Scriptures are often not intended to be taken literally. Sometimes the correct interpretation is abstract and not immediately available. People who memorize things they cannot begin to understand, whether "Christians" or "atheists," do have troubles helping people decide between the Chevrolet Equinox and the Pontiac Solstice.

I think the number of atheists who aren't ignorant-minded compared to the number of Christians who aren't ignorant-minded weighs heavily in the favor of the former - of course there are many atheists who aren't overly good thinkers (your average edgy Reddit atheist, for example, who reasons like a 12 year old), but that's not overly relevant. I'm not an atheist myself (agnostic), but they generally seem to think more critically about the Bible and don't simply write off the many inconsistencies/absurdities the way religious people do.

My lumberjacks could beat your scientists in intelligence tests, but no it was not lumberjacks. It was the schools I attended, their teachers, the grades they gave me and "standardized" intelligence tests given by those schools. The earliest ones were Stanford-Binet. Later I'm not sure what they used, but it was likely some combination of SB and Wechsler. And I have always maintained and noted that those are among many other valid ratings of intelligence. "If a man can sit by a lake all day holding a fishing pole, he is a genius if it keeps food on his table." Remember now? How many times have I said that?
