About a month ago, my X3 was sideswiped by drunk driver who didn't have insurance. My insurance did an estimate and paid me themselves. There's a pending lawsuit against the party at fault.
The damage was so bad, I almost thought about trading it in. For most vehicles, it would've been a "total." I had only had this vehicle for a couple months.
So, the body shop did their own estimate, and found the damage to be almost double than what my insurance paid me. They contacted my insurance and it was a hassle to get that additional $.This in itself pisses me off a bit, because if I would have decided to trade in the car, I would have lost thousands of dollars that my insurance ended up having to fork out anyway.
So fast forward: I pick up my SUV today, and everything looked good from the distance. Fresh coat of paint and clear coat.
Upon closer inspection, I noticed on the door panel, rather than replace the whole door exterior, they put some type of PATCH there over the damaged area, and painted/clear-coated over it.
And, they did the same thing to the door on the other side - the door that was not damaged - to make both doors even. They basically ruined it now.
It cost almost double than my estimate to do this kind of work? To complain about this and bring it back, would cost my insurance an additional another several thousand, which would be an inconvenient hassle.
It's drivable, and it looks good from a distance, and no one would else would notice unless they really look for it, but I KNOW - and it's not in the same condition it was in before my accident, and that bothers me.
Should I be pissed?
