It was really bad. I'll give it credit in that it did give us many of the money shots that a fight between the two species could give. But that's pretty much all it had going for it and it's not what makes the franchises so endearing. The casting sucked as well as the dialogue and direction and the whole freaking plot.
I liked AVP: Requiem much more. I don't mind AVP: Requiem in fact.

I'd kind of agree. AvP isn't good, AvP Requiem isn't much better but I do think it was better. The predator in the second film seemed to have a bit more personality. I think I've seen him referred to as the Winston Wolf of the predators and that seemed apt. I also liked the fact that they didn't shy away from killing children.

Children got killed and a pregnant woman. The way the Predalien impregnated the pregnant woman with multiple eggs kinda makes sense. As reptiles they could have been hermaphrodites capable of self reproducing and the Alien from a Predator could inherit those genes.

It is bad, but it's watchable. It has a kind of bad B-movie charm.
AVP: Requiem is so awful it's unwatchable imo. This movie has some of the worst directing I have ever seen and I wouldn't re-watch it on a bet.
Killing children is very distasteful in this kind of movie.

Both AVP movies are trash but requiem had that disgusting pregnant woman scene. I rarely ever complain about violence but that was just unnecessary.

Have they? Not in Alien or Aliens and those are the only two I like. Anyway, the main problem with Requiem is that it lacks any suspenseand is mind-numbingly boring.

Killing children is very distasteful in this kind of movie. Agreed. I think the movie was very well aware of this too.

Not Alien but in Aliens there are children on the colony that gets overrun with cenomorphs. In an extended scene you meet Newts family including her brother...and she tells you he died. Not explicitly shown but it's obvious what happened to him. And in Alien 3 they kill Newt, including an autopsy scene to see if she became a host.

Not explicitly shown but it's obvious what happened to him. And in Alien 3 they kill Newt, including an autopsy scene to see if she became a host. Alien 3 is a POS anyway imo so it doesn't matter. There is only one scene in the entire movie I think is well done, much of the rest is cringe-inducing and features the most boring generic cast of characters I could possibly imagine. Even Weaver looks bored and tired of playing the character. The cinematography is all over the place and when I found out that Jordan Cronenweth became ill during filming and they had to replace him, I wasn't surprised. Killing off Newt was a terrible idea in the first place as far as I'm concerned.
In Aliens it isn't onscreen and that is the difference. Also, some directors know how to handle the killing of children and some don't. Another big difference is that in this film it is done for shock value.
I would have been more forgiving with Requiem if that was my only problem with the movie. But I pretty much hated every aspect of the film. The cinematography, the editing, the characters, the story etc. The movie is just unpleasant in pretty much every way.

I guess I am one of the few that enjoyed AVP. I thought it was a very good story. I liked the "Ancient Aliens" aspect of the plot, which talked about about the history of our planet, and how these two alien species routinely battle each other.
I thought Requiem was rather boring compared to AVP. If felt like it was just another typical, rather pointless, hollywood horror film that gets made these days...only with Aliens & Predators...and there was nothing special about it, for either franchise. I was not even impressed with the Hybrid creature. The only thing I really enjoyed, was seeing the brief appearance of the Predator homeworld.

That's fine...I'm just saying the Alien franchise has killed kids before. I don't intend to defend how great AvPR is since I personally think it's mediocre at best and have only seen it twice.

Both AVP movies were average for me, and almost completely forgettable. This and FvJ were both disappointing when they should have been awesome.

one of my greatest cinematic disappointments. AvPR was even worse imo;the first one let me down but the followup actually made me angry.
i did think the Grid alien design was cool.

I don't care about the R rating, AVP: R was unwatchable - literally. It was so poorly lit I couldn't see shit. The bizarrely mean-spirited tone was also off from both franchises. Sure, Aliens and Alien 3 had children die, but offscreen. The whole teen subplot felt like something out of a slasher movie. I seriously hated this film.
AVP is bad as well, but in a more "dumb fun" way.

A friend of mine loaned me the DVD a couple of years after it came out and told me that there is a very silly part in it. When I returned it he asked if I saw the part, I said "yes, it's the bit between the titles and the end credits".
