I guess I am one of the few that enjoyed AVP. I thought it was a very good story. I liked the "Ancient Aliens" aspect of the plot, which talked about about the history of our planet, and how these two alien species routinely battle each other. I thought Requiem was rather boring compared to AVP. If felt like it was just another typical, rather pointless, hollywood horror film that gets made these days...only with Aliens & Predators...and there was nothing special about it, for either franchise. I was not even impressed with the Hybrid creature. The only thing I really enjoyed, was seeing the brief appearance of the Predator homeworld. ^This I really think AvP could have benefited from an R-rating. Both franchises were historically pretty gruesome up to this point, and while I'm not a gorehound, it was pretty well played until this movie. I didn't feel like the aliens or predators were as threatening. Again, I don't need gratuitous violence, but gore and disturbing imagery is kind of consistent with the tone both of the series set up to this point. The story was a very cool concept and I loved it being set on Earth, but in such an isolated location. Though we've seen predators in present times, we hadn't seen aliens...the way they did that was convincing to me. Just a story about a buried pyramid at the south pole has me intrigued. The flashback scene of the predator on the pyramid getting swarmed by aliens was great...and makes the function of the pyramid/hunt seem believable. The queen looked cool out in the snow as well. The climax was pretty well done IMHO. I just didn't like the characters though. Same goes for AvP : Requiem. Some of them were just there to be killed and it's painfully obvious. I'll give the writers credit in that the aliens and predators are basically mute, so humans are not just meat but vehicles for exposition. AvP : Requiem was pretty bad in my opinion. There are a few cool ideas here (I liked the shot of the alien outside the kid's bedroom, alien in the sewer). The killing of kids didn't bother me as much as it did to some other posters. The lack of depth in the characters bothers me though. I just wish they would have actually lit the film during some scenes. It was so dark most of the time. I don't know if that was a tonal choice, but maybe I'm just the kind of guy that likes to see the movie I'm seeing. The predator was pretty cool in this movie though...Winston Wolf is an appropriate comparison as far as I'm concerned.

I really didn't like it. I love the 'Alien' and 'Predator' franchises so I pretend this doesn't exist.

Requiem is the worse of the two, I'm sorry. Story is too small in scale and it looks like a SyFy channel original with too much contrast that its hard to tell just what the F is going on. AVP was pretty stupid, but I'd rather sit through that than Requiem all over again.
