I'm alive and well during this Zombie Apocalypse; it's like a Seventies movie come to life. Good to hear from you Marendil. Yes, it looks we are in a sci-fi movie now.

Faramir and Eowyn were two characters I wished had been brought more to the fore in the books. Jackson tried to do that with Faramir in the film but I don't think he came off well. Eowyn's character really resonated with me, and I felt her frustration with her life. As I said, I wish they had played a bigger part in the books and the films. I thought Faramir came off pretty much the opposite of the way he was portrayed in the books. Eowyn's tragedy (in the books) was she wanted to die, she wasn't just frustrated. As a kid reading it I was afraid she'd jump off the battlements in those scenes after the siege of Minas Tirith. The very best part of the books in my opinion was her facing down the Witch King, with the line that starts 'Begone foul dwimmerlaik, lord of carrion...' but instead that is truncated so we can watch Orlando Bloom play with elephants. I agree about her killing the Witch King - she should have been given more recognition in the film for doing that. I felt that in the books, because her life was one of frustration, she wanted to die a heroes death, until she met Aragorn and felt he could save her from the life she hated. When she realised he couldn't then yes, I agree she probably wanted death but in an honourable way. I am glad Tolkien gave her and Faramir a second chance though. I think they were well suited to one another, but I do wish we had seen more of them. By the way, don't you dare say anything against Legolas! He can play with me anytime -

I thought those shots of Legolas and the elephants were spectacular but not as dramatic in my opinion as the scene they cut away from.
Whatever happened to Orlando Bloom anyway? He was as big as a star could be there for a while, ubiquitous in both blockbusters and other films, but then he just seemed to disappear.

I think Bloom was typecast as the pretty elf from LoTR in many ways, but though he was given parts in other films for a while, I honestly don't think he's much of an actor.

Maybe he got burned out? He was working pretty much non-stop for years.
