This one's likely gonna start some wars. I will say that my top 5 are on lock, in that order. Montana-Manning-Unitas had to be on my list in some order. Reggie & Barry I just felt like they were the most peerless of the next potentials. I'll admit I hate leaving aside Elway, Tomlinson, Marino, Butkus, Greene... there's a huge pool of crazy good players on deck.

Yikes. I'll go with White, though I'd feel dirty having that many players at one position (QB, even if it's the most important in pro sports ) in my top ten. I don't even want to say that's my final answer. And just think of all the players you left off your list, which makes it even harder to contemplate who's actually top ten worthy.

Close enough I suppose, but I feel Elway has to be there, which begs the question who do you take out? I guess Barry Sanders, but I’m certainly not saying that Sanders is not an all time great. For that matter so is Deion Sanders. Maybe there should be an offense list and a defense list.

Yeah, choosing #6-10 was fuct up.

Elway needs to be on the list, and Emmitt Smith should be in the top ten if Barry Sanders is (and Barry is in my top ten, he's my favorite RB of all time) as well. It hurts my brain to try decide top ten 'football players' when their jobs are so drastically different. Top ten anything is going to be tough, but at least top ten basketball players did comparable things on the court even if they played different positions.

And that’s not even getting into players such as Anthony Muñoz, John Hannah, and Mike Webster. Are they no less great at what they did vs these others? What about special teamers?

Votes for Brown, Brady, & Rice. Trolling or doing it wrong for someone I guess.

I guess the guy I have the problem with in Unitas. Not so much with Johnny U, but the time he played. No position in the NFL, no position in sports, has changed as much as quarterback. To think that great QB's from long ago, like Arnie Herber or Benny Friedmann, could play now is silly. Same with Sid Luckman and Otto Graham. They couldn't read the defenses now. Where does the cutoff end? You reach a point where qb's can play in any era, Montana, the Class of 1983. What about Unitas? He could throw. Could he read defenses? Could he elude monsters like Aaron Donald or Ja Clowney?
Jim Brown could run in any era. Foolishness to vote for him

I would include Fran Tarkenton and remove Manning.

How good they were compared to their contemporaries is the only fair way to pick 'all time' players.

He was head and shoulders better than any receiver of his era. Held every concievable pass catching record when he retired. Can you say he was better than Randy Moss or Larry Fitzgerald? How about Mel Hein, one of the greatest centers of his era. Better than Mike Webster or Jim Otto?

Many baseball players. I have no doubt Honus Wagner, Ty Cobb, Rogers Hornsby could hit pitching today. Pitching is a tad different. Most pitchers before the 50's relied on deception, they were junkballers. Even noted guys who could throw heat like Walter Johnson only did it occasionally. Bob Feller was the first that threw gas over and over

I'm gonna avoid putting QBs in my list because I think it's too hard to judge them compared to others positions.
Jerry Rice Barry Sanders Reggie White Lawrence Taylor Randy Moss Jim Brown Deion Sanders Ed Reed Tony Gonzalez LaDainian Tomlinson
It got pretty hard after 6.

I'd take any of the guys above over him. Tbh I'm not overly familiar with Ronnie Lott

They never tell the whole picture especially for that position and OL but it's all I can go on at this moment.

Yes, I think it's debatable. Clearly Randy Moss is a superior athlete to Don Hutson, but Hutson was one of the best of his era, thus has to be in the conversation for 'all time' greats. To me it'd be ridiculous to just dismiss another player's contributions to the game simply because he played 80 years ago. If you towered over your contemporaries, in any era, you're an all time great.
