I always felt the 2004 "Undertow" starring Jamie Bell was a homage to it. What do ya'll think?

Kinda lame. It's been remade once before.
I'd be more interested in something inspired by it. I haven't seen Undertow but I just added it to my watch list.

Egh, no thanks. Mitchum was fantastic as Harry Powell but that's not my primary concern about a remake. Laughton's direction and style gave it this weird dreamlike atmosphere and the imagery was eerie and spooky like an old-timey (even for 1955) German Expressionist movie. Maybe twenty years ago someone like David Fincher or Tim Burton would had been a solid choice for a remake. But now I'm not so sure.

I think Cape Fear 1991 was influenced by it too--Max Cady was turned into a religious fanatic.

Make him a woman and go from there maybe?. Sadly you're not being facetious.
