I think that Richard E. Grant did a pretty darn good job playing him.
Heck, I know that I am in the minority when I say this but I also think that Allegiant General Pryde had 1 of the Most Awesome and EPIC Death Scenes ever for a "STAR WARS" Movie Villain.

I still haven’t seen it yet! I’m watching it in instalments as I’m doing long shifts. I’m at the battle of Exegol though. I’m enjoying it much more than TLJ.

Actually I know what happens. It’s ok. And I didn’t expect him to live anyway.

It's oft been said that the makers of the DT didn't have enough Pryde in their work...
Boom boom! 😂

He was needed to hide a reveal. Hux and Kylo were there for the same reasons. Hux's character falls in line with what he did. You couldn't do that with Pryde.

I think the problem with Hux is that he became bigger than he should have been. Each of the movies had a secondary villain besides Vader. Hux should be the Tarkin/Maul of the ST.

But he wasn’t interesting enough. Pryde was. Pryde was calm yet imposing. Hux was impotent snark. Maybe they could have had both. But I know who I’d prefer. Maybe Domhall Gleason needed another 20 years to his age to appear serious enough. Richard E Grant wouldn’t have been right for the job 30 years ago I wouldn’t have thought.

That was the point of the character. Hux wasn't some big shot leader. He got the position because of who his family was. He was a wannabe. If you notice, everyone around him was more qualified. He should have died when Holdo crashed the ship. Or even when Poe started that attack.
