Daisy Ridley Says Mark Hamill Felt Like ‘Luke Of Old’ In ‘Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker’
Daisy Ridley opened up about working with Mark Hamill on Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, explaining that he felt like the real Luke. The home release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker comes with some interesting bonus features, including a making-of documentary looking at how the final film in the sequel trilogy came to be. A section in The Skywalker Legacy documentary looks at the momentous return of Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker. During the segment, Hamill’s co-star Daisy Ridley explained that the star felt more like the character than ever before. Ridley mentioned that the version of Luke shown in the last film is much more like the character that fans saw in the original trilogy, instead of the jaded and bitter hermit in self-exile on Ahch-To. The star mentioned that when working with Hamill, he was “the Luke of old.” Daisy Ridley also mentioned she thinks J.J. Abrams was looking to include the hero’s spirit from the original trilogy. This isn’t surprising given the negative reaction to the character’s arc in The Last Jedi from a portion of Star Wars fans. “It was probably nice for Mark to be more like the Luke of old. Which I think J.J. felt like he really wanted that. It was nice to feel – and even in the scene – to feel really comforted that like ‘Luke Skywalker is here’.” heroichollywood.com/daisy-ridley-mark-hamill-real-luke-star-wars-the-rise-of-skywalker/Do you agree or disagree with Daisy Ridley ?

Not surprising seeing as Ruin Johnson didn’t care about the character at all.
I guess it just shows that J.J. screwed up too when he decided not to include Luke in TFA. I bet he regrets that now. Damn, what a mess this trilogy was. They really blew it.

I like how Luke says in IX, "I was wrong."
Hmmn, I wonder what that's a metaphor for?

Damn, what a mess this trilogy was. They really blew it. The only reason JJ didn’t include Luke in TFA was to appease Kathleen Kennedy. Michael Arndt wrote TFA for a year and a half. But Kennedy made him keep making rewrites where Luke’s screen time was cut back further and further. And he behaved more insignificantly. Kay Kay didn’t want Luke competing with Rey as the Jedi hero. After Abrams got the screenplay he solved the dilemma by totally cutting Luke out of the movie (save for that silent cameo at the end). So Kathleen is to blame for that, just as much if not more.

The way I see is that Luke in The Rise of Skywalker is a continuation of his arc in The Last Jedi. The "Luke of old" came back after Yoda showed him that failure is a teacher, and then faced down the First Order by pulling off an incredible Force technique that only a Jedi strong in the Force could do. In The Rise of Skywalker, he didn't want Rey to make the same mistake of self-exiling on Ahch-To. So, yeah, it was the "Luke of old" because he learned his lesson.

Take that, Ruin Johnson. Even Daisy Ridley admits TLJ was garbage.
