Time to show our appreciation for the aide to the Texas governor who was the pioneer in equal opportunity employment, not only in hiring the first African American sheriff in the territory, but also for the equal opportunity in hiring for the building of the railroad, and not letting a town full of white squatters stop progress.
When minority workers on the railroad were tired, they were allowed to take naps.
Minority workers were allowed the responsibility of scouting for quicksand along the trail.
So dedicated was Hedley Lamarr to the pioneers who gave us the railroad, that he went to great lengths to salvage every single railroad car that was listed as lost.
Time to celebrate this great Western hero.
