or is he just another friend ? No. I wouldn’t say Luke was. But I do think Luke marks a turning point in the kind of friends Han kept. At the time that they met Luke was semi-naive. If Han had any naive friends before Luke they probably didn’t last long. They probably wound up dead or stuck in some trouble Han had to leave behind. Luke also had passionate loyalties for the Rebellion. Before Luke, Han would’ve probably cut short those type of friendships because they could attract too much attention from the Empire. By the end of the original trilogy, I do think they become ideal buddies for one another.

The friend he didn't know he needed.
Classic storytelling of a character who sets out to get something (in this case money), and gets a lot more instead or on top of it (friends, family, something to fight for).
