Hello, fellow posters and other shut-ins. A few years ago, I got nostalgic for the old Perry Mason series, and ordered a full set. I guess I was busy, as I only watched a few from the first season. It's been such fun to watch them, now. A few days ago, Perry's client was played by a very young Robert Redford (so, of course he wasn't guilty). If I saw that episode when it aired, I'm sure that I wouldn't have recognized him. It has to have been in his "bit part" days. There have been a very few wherein I remember "whodunit." But, even then, I fully enjoy them. One kind-of silly little detail that I've noticed that I didn't see during original airing is that the make-up artist/s, for that program really worked on making eyebrows the focal point of most faces. Of course, the TV screens were pretty small, then, compared to the mega screens, today. Anyway, it's been fun to watch. I think that CBS has a subscription service, now, I may look into that for other favorite shows.

They show Perry Mason on MeTV late at night (10:30 Central). Next week, they start showing episodes at 9 AM Central as well.

I love the Monday through Friday Perry showcase on Me.
Black and white it may be, it's one of the network's "signature" series. It was a wonderful show. The plots are mostly pretty good, although the episodes are so densely plotted that they seldom develop into being real stories about real people. People often as not behave more to type than character.
PM really wasn't a dramatic show, like Route 66 or The Fugitive; and they do edit episodes on Me, though, with a character one remembers having walked out of a building, and down a flight of stairs to either their car or a bus, in one broadcast, next it's shown one sees the person at home having a cocktail with his wife (whatever).
They like to make room for more commercials on MeTV. I rather resent this "condensation" of episodes of shows, which often offer interesting glimpses of an America that's largely vanished; and of course the dialing of telephones, the changing of hairstyles for women, and for men, the suits and ties; and if its the Fifties, men and women wore hats way more often than today.

I have never sat down and watched an episode, though I have heard a lot about the series and I've never heard anything but good things about it.
I think I'll have to pick up the first season dvd.
